Title: Stafford No Show
Post by: mini-thumper on August 16, 2007, 08:58:36 AM
Dear All
After a great deal of thought, and not wanting to 'stick-the-boot-in' given Pat's imminent departure, I've decided due to a distinct lack of interest by the wider populous of the club that I can't be bothered with the Stafford show this year. I have had replies from SteveD, Simon and Bruce offering bikes, which were gladly received, but even with my bike this isn't going to make the MINIMUM of six required. Its a shame but all things have there day and I would rather bow out on a successful high rather than a lack lustre low.

Obviously if anyone else wants to take over the mantle I am more than willing to help. I have already sent a fictitious list of entrants to Morton's as the  closing date for inclusion in the catalogue is the end of August. I will however, if there is no one else forth coming, contact them and withdraw us before the catalogue is printed.

Sorry to here this, I can't be of assistance as not sure if I can get the weekend off work until nearer the date which is a b*mer I know and no good for planning.
Also if the truth be known not much left in the kitty for bike things at present!

Boyd, I am really sad that the response has been so poor. I shall miss not being a Stafford this year but as you know I will be in sunny Australia. In my recent post headed another milestone I asked who if anyone intended going to the Monotreffen. So far there has been no response to that question either. I can only assume that we each have our own personal agenda and frequently it does not match up with other peoples. Apathy rules

Boyd,
It would be a great pity if the club wasn't represented at Stafford.  I can't take over the mantle, but if the main problem is bikes to show and bodies to man the stand I can bring the XBR over and generally help out (barring disasters). I won't be able to get over until late friday afternoon though.

I asked who if anyone intended going to the Monotreffen.
I was keen but its too close to my holiday to get a weekend pass. On the plus side the trip back to the Ferry might be a bit more relaxed without me around !.

Well, I'll be available with either the DR or the SRX and the marquee and tables and chairs and food prep stuff and beers and the Jikos and I'll take time off work as usual!
IS it still on?

PS Just booked for Doornenburg, me and AS with the SRX's (£224 for the two of us), sail from Hull Thurs evening return Monday evening from Rotterdam.

Sorry to read about the problems and i'm afraid i'm no help to the situation, either.I work Tues to Sat and as i've recently been banned for 56 days for "exceeding the posted speed limit of 60 MPH" by a trifling 51.2 MPH  :-[ i had to use up all unbooked Holiday to cover some of my absence from work. The club Display is always one i enjoy seeing and i hope that it can be saved.

Upon reflection I might have been a tad hasty in throwing in the towel. If all those who have said they will put bikes on the stand (Friday - Sunday) could CONTACT ME ASAP WITH YOUR DETAILS (your name, location, bike - make/model/cc) I will sort with Mortons. If we had SteveD's SRX, SteveC's XBR, Bruce's Norton, Simon's Duke, SteveH's DR, Allan's Savage, and my NX650, it would be the most representative display we have ever had on the stand. My 'mini tantrum' might have been worth it after all ???

Well I'm game for stand building. My XBR outift is also available as an example of how far you can ride on 1.6 litres of supermarket oil :)

I reckon Alan's 650 Goose would be a fantastic bike to display. Any chance of getting it for the show?

Cheers

Glad you are all able to make it. As I've said in some e-mail replies already, the site is open (I think but will confirm) all night. There are exhibitors coming from far-and-wide so it would make sense.

GC glad that you will be able to make it but not sure if there will be enough room for the outfit :'(. If all the pledged bikes arrive we will have the most diverse collection ever. True to form we will play it by ear and see on the day.

Tomorrow I will sort the materials and then get set building straight away. Promise it will be simple and definitely NO turf!

Many thanks for the offer Alan I will leave it to SteveD's discretion as to whether or not he can fit it in the van. I will add it to the list I send to Morton's just in case.

From famine to feast - to date we have: SRX, XBR, Savage, Norton Big 4, KTM Duke II, DR750, Dominator, and possibly Suzuki Goose 660.
