Title: CCM604DS opinions
Post by: mav617 on May 31, 2007, 08:46:19 PM
Hi guys,

a local breaker has a 1999 T reg CCM604DS stolen/recovered in for £1500. It looks clean and seems mechanically sound but needs a lockset, clocks, headlight and a seat. I like the CCMs but don't know much about the 604 (Rotax engine?) and there seems little info about them online. Anyone had one, or know guys or gals that have? It would also mean I'd have to sell off the SZR to buy it so it's taking a chance on a bike I know little about, and are CCM parts expensive and difficult to pick up secondhand - a trawl of Ebay suggests so....

Careful with the stolen recovereds mate- they are wheelie machines, so look at head bearings.  Broken levers?  Is the frame straight, tank ok etc??

Lockset, clock, headlight are pretty superfluous to making it a good bike.  A seat helps admittedly, but how often do they come up on Ebay??  I'll bet you a new one from CCM is about 200 quid  ??

But on the flipside you may also get a bit of a tasty bike quite cheap, so I'm not really being much use!

Engine alone is worth a bob or two.  Parts are not too bad - but not as easy as a Jap.  CCM parts for the cycle etc, engine wise there are people supplying bits for the MT500 etc that are the self same engine.

My Rotax is pretty low state of tune - about as low as they get - but the CCM is much better - I understand a bit viby - but it is a single.

Cycle parts are (I think) top notch - WP shock etc?

I would have thought you wild get more than £1500 on ebay for the parts?

I have owned a 99 604e sport with a 636 big bore  for 3yrs and would not part with it..they should have paoli 46mm forks blue bottoms on 98-99 and shorter travel gold on 99-00, wp shock, brembo calipers, sidepanels and rear mudguard are off 95-01 yz250, headlight is just a UFO item..seats vary between as low as £10 and as much as £50 on ebay i bought one for a tenner.rotax engine is bullet proof I can vouch for that..if you really want to know more give me a shout or go visit http://www.ccmowners.co.uk/
Would be good for you to listen to it turn over on starter making sure no horrid noise comes from the starter sprag as its about £150 for parts to fix saying that mine has never played up but they have been known to on unloved bikes.

Guys,

Thanks to all who replied. I really fancy a go at this and have arranged to see it again tomorrow. I just have to weigh up whether I really want a Supermono and a CCm over a Sportsbike(ish) and a Yamaha. I've been Yamaha for years and have some brand loyalty, but I'd like to own a Brit(ish) bike and most of my riding involves twisty runs to the Cat and Fiddle which may not be quicker than on the SZR but at least I'd be sat up to see the scenery. Hmm...it's a quandary - a straight swap and I'd do it tomorrow but another 600-700 beer tokens on top of my current toy might be a token too far, having just become a dad and that. Mikb - big help on the spares prices, although maybe I was secretly hoping they'd be too expensive to contemplateand thus make the decision easier! Guess I'll be at Dent on the SiZzleR.......

After a superb ride to Buxton over the Cat & Fiddle on the old SZR yesterday in company with a mate on his 600 Bandit, I'm going to stick with the SZR. After all the recent problems with the rear brake and shock it felt really good yesterday and the reaction of a guy on 1000 Fazer who thought he was struggling to see off a 125 until we parked up (660? Is that an Import? A Single? Never seen one of them before etc) all reminded me why I bought it in the first place. So all being well I'll be at Dent on the SZR after all (lottery wins not withstanding....)
