Here's hoping you have a good one Michael. Up to now I have a trip to John O'Groats and one to Rhayader planned with Dorothy's Speed Shop, a ride on the Flying Scotsman with my wife, some camping trips with my wife in her campervan and me in my tent and of course a cuppa and a cake with your good self and friends.

The flying Scotsman. Now that sounds brilliant. Just to stand along side it would be cool, let alone travel in it. We’ll defo need some photos of that one when the time comes 👍
Unfortunately I’ll be out of action for a couple o three months. I’m having to go in for surgery this coming Saturday to have my prostrate removed. Fingers crossed all will go well and I’ll be back to it within a few months. I’m hoping to be back in the saddle come the 1st march so that ride along with a bacon buttie and cuppa yarksha tea is defo still on the 2026 to do list 👍
Cheers… Michael

Oh and on the subject of the prostrate surgery. They’ve caught mine in its very early stages because I went for the PSA blood test about 12 months ago, on the suggestion of big bro has he’d had it.
SO, to all you fellows out there in TC land. Do yourselves a favour, go and get the blood test done👍

I am glad they caught it early, and hope you recover quickly from the surgery and are back in the saddle early in 2026.
I would also recommend regular PSA tests, mine was slightly high and have been regularly monitored for a while now, hopefully nothing will come of it, but it is peace of mind.

Thanks for your best wishes Steve. Yes I too was monitored. For approximately the last 12months on a three monthly blood test program. My count has shot up very sharply since my last test. It’s the velocity that it’s risen that set the alarm bells ringing. So they (the urologist) recommended surgery now, rather running the risk of the cancer spreading, so needless to say I took his advice.
Fingers crossed for you going forward, that your count stays stable 🤞👍
Cheers, Michael

Fingers crossed for you Michael-hope it all goes well.
I think I already told you I've been on meds (Tamsulosin) since getting a bad UTI in my early 60's. Just gone 68 BTW.
I've been followed up with regular PSA tests ever since.

Hopefully a pic of the Flying Scotsman at the Severn Valley Railway in Bewdley will appear the right way up. Taken last summer...........

Thanks Martin.
What a brilliant looking steam engine the Scotsman is.
Especially when it’s the right way up 😁😉👍

Best wishes for a successful op. Michael, followed by a full recovery and I wish the abeyance continues for SteveH and xbally. I used to have mine tested annually, when I went for my annual "MoT" test. However, after probably 10 years of tests, the surgery have decided that I don't need to have any more, for the time being!? No explanation? However, there is no history of prostate troubles in my family, just the cholesterol and the thyroid, for which I am taking the pills.

As for the "Flying Scotsman" she is a bonnie loco, as is "Tornado" and we have been fortunate to have travelled, with those loco's as the motive power several times between Edinburgh Waverley and Aberdeen return, also Edinburgh via Stirling, Aberdeen and return. Nothing compares to the beat of a Pacific compound louping along. Whilst my Dad was Southern Region daft, I have always preferred traction engines in all their forms, with a soft spot for Fowler ploughing engines. Any way, I attach an image from 12th, August 2019, of the "Flying Scotsman" waiting for the signal to allow the train to proceed from the Perth station platform of the main line, out alongside the River Tay to Dundee and then hugging the coast and passing through Arbroath, Montrose, Stonehaven and terminating at Aberdeen. The restoration just outside Aberdeen station of the Palmuir turntable, where the Ferryhill Motive Power depot used to be, now enables the engines to run forward both to and from Aberdeen.

Good health to you all for 2026 and beyond and keep riding the beasties, Bill

Can I be a bit devisive regarding 60103 ( or 4472 for the purists). It's a beautiful engine let down by those ugly (German) smoke deflectors. 60163 Tornado on the other hand (IMHO) is beauty personified in engineering.

My dad was treated with hormone therapy for his prostate cancer. Not sure whether that's why I'm being monitored? When it was first done it was supposed to be every 6 months. Now I generally have to request the blood test every 12 months.

That's no devisive, just an opinion and I do agree with you. "Elephant lugs" on British, Pacific loco, isn't British! As to the reasons why? My Dad could have quoted chapter and verse, but I don't have a clue? As long as they both continue to run and 'The Donald' doesn't sanction Columbian coal, as we no longer produce any coal ourselves, except tailings from the old wash plants of yor!   :-X

2026 is already "interesting", let's hope it doesn't become terrifying.

Good health and go safe, Bill

Hey Michael
I am sorry to hear of your need for surgery mate. However as Steve H, Xbally, myself, Andrew and doubtless other Thumerteers prove we are a tough bunch and no doubt you will be ok. Actually you have to be as I'm not accepting major surgery as an excuse to get out of paying for a cake and cuppa. Honestly you Yorkshire men!
