Most of us are savages anyway

Apart from GC of course he is an educated gentleman fallen on hard times...

Welcome - XBR / SZR / SRX etc are not obligatory just a little ubiquitous

Mmmm my bad spelling of ubiquitous turned us as an option - Over cautious....

Hi Allan,

Yeah, all welcome here - search the threads and you'll find discussions relating to the Savage - we were discussing a Manx Norton with a Savage engine only last week.

The guys on here are helpful with all things thumper (or bikes in general) related. Bring the Savage posse to Dent for the Annual Rally!

Cheers

Hi Alan. Great to hear from another Savage fan.I don't have one but have been considering getting one for a few weeks now.I would be gratefull for any pointers you can give me,anything to look out for.I've heard they can have cam shaft problems but mainly because they haven't been allowed to warm up properly.

Of coarse your welcome. We're far too polite to mock the afflicted :-) If it's a bike with one lung your welcome here. Come to think of it, we even welcome a couple of twins and the odd stink wheel too :-?

Thanks all for the warm welcome, I suppose I'll have to join now, Dent does intrest me and my son so we will see how things go,

Toad, camshafts not the problem cam chains are or at least the adjuster, they can fail as low as 14.000 miles any unusual rattle/clicking needs to be looked at straight away, need regular oil changes other than that there ok, if your local to Manchester, come and have a chat, possible test ride?

Allan.

Yep, all welcome, even member 002 who has just bought another twin :)

(and fitted a big bore kit to his Boxer, whilst his Enfield gets neglected).

Right, is that enough cats amongst the pigeons?

Cats and pigeons in this post, sheep and deer in the one futher up. I'm worried about you lot!

Still, as an ex-thumper owning, 2-stroke and twin rider I'm saying nothing. They make me feel welcome and of the current stuff in the garage you'd really only say the camping stoves would be of interest to half the club!

Beg to differ :-) My experience is men start to cook with petrol - can't get the bloody thing going - then niegh on burn their tent down when leaking fuel ignites spontaniously - turn into sooted and burnt whimps and borrow their mates gas canister to finally cook their food whilst explaining to the gathered throng of doubled over hyenas why petrol is better on the slopes of Mt Everest! (snigger snigger snigger!)

Gas- simple to use, just like me and my bike  :-)

The rules are simple

If you camp in the UK and want simple you use a Trangia - and if it all goes wrong you can always drink the fuel.. eeeeek

Gas is for dentists and petrol is for engines.  Gel burners are kinky and deserve to be on www.spanking and leather clad.co.uk.

REAL men use self bows to hunt their food and cook it on a wood fire sparked up through friction.

<grin>

Does that rule out my us army issue tilly lamp style petrol stove then? three pumps and your good, 6 and youve built a instant campfire. Lighting it isnt the problem at all...
Rog, hunting with a bow is illegal nowadays Im afraid. Pity as I have a really nice custom built 45lb recursive with carbon arrows...

Have you all forgotten wood? I've got a wonderful wee propane stove and a Coleman, but most of my camp cooking has been done over a wood fire. Real men may cook with Sterno or something, but real campers use wood. When you've been riding through freezing fog for some time and recognise that you're about to die, a wood fire's the only thing.

Hi All

Mr Fluffy - yup realise that bow hunting in the UK is illegal (across all of Europe too but I understand that some places like the UK it is more illegal than others - mind I cannot hit a target let alone a fluffy bunny....

In the process of trying to make an ash bow or two, and have some laurel bay that may do too.

Cooking on a wood fire - mmmm - wonderful way of doing fish - on greenwood sprigs .  Mind have to avoid the soft wood and only cook on hard wood.

You mean that we have archers amongst the Thumpers? Fantastic - I'll take my 50lb Compound and 35lb Mongolian Recurve to Dent then eh? Field Archery - it's the way forward...

He he - we could set GC running - or on a bike and see if we could bring him down....

Actually he is a bit to old and tough.

Just passed my 'test' to join Margam Archers and have got my NFAS card through the post.  Would like to raise the money for a nice long bow but am now skint having paid up all the membership etc of the various orgs to be covered by insurance.

I have a target trailer in our field when the fancy takes me, I just go down there and practice on my own. I can move it around to change the distance and angle etc. I only have the recurve at the moment and dont get chance to use that much with a 3yo son, as he's a bit young to take him down the field for a spot of practice yet, I should add with his own bow, lest anyone gets the wrong idea and thinks he's going to be the target :)
Have a big bale of hay on the trailer to catch errant arrows and also hold the target on. In deference to the general public, I do at least unstring the bow to walk the couple of hundred metres to the gate. Theres a lot of hunting goes on here (mostly deer and wild boar) but Ive never seen anyone with a bow wandering past although the shops do sell them as "hunting bows". The locals always seem facinated by mine.
Not used to shooting moving things (with a bow anyway) as our field remains shockingly bunny free and I cannt be bothered chasing things in a big pack of renault 4 vans with la chasse, so probally gc would be ok unless he got knackered and stood still for too long, plus I cant make dent as I live in france and have other stuff on then...

We should be asking if campfire or archery discssion is allowed here, not savages :)

A whole bunch of the Margam Archers are coming over to France soon to the annual ere-enactment of Agincourt - this year as the 500th (?) anniversary the French are actually taking part again - unfortunately I will not be one of them - have not been doing it long enough and there is something like £1000 worth of kit as a minimum - it all has to be repro medieval stuff like self nocked arrows, proper through curve bow, etc etc.  Still sounds fun
