SRX600 Bent handlebar
« on: January 14, 2019, 09:35:32 AM »
SRX600-1XL
I have a slightly bent left handlebar probably due to an earlier touchdown.
I would love to do this straight but do not know if I dare to risk it to crack when I bend it back.
The tube is hollow until bending. It is aluminum and freight thickness about 1/6 ”(4-5mm)
There are no cracks today.
What do you think? Should I take the risk of bending it back?

I'm always very cautious about bending aluminium alloys especially when you don't actually know the composition. People will talk about coating it with soap and heating till the soap turns black but for something like a handlebar that would be a risk too far for me. I'd leave it as it is.

I agree with Ian, this is one piece that HAS to be in perfect condition..... if you want a straight one, have a look round for one for sale.

Thank you for the answers. That's what I thought too, but I was hoping someone could convince me otherwise.  :)
