XBR SEAT LOCK WON'T DISENGAGE

As my bike hasn't turned a wheel since i put it in the garage at our new house on 23rd of December i decided to charge up the battery but i can't access it as the key doesn't turn fully in the lock so the seat can't be removed. They are never a good fit in my experience but is was working last time i used it which could have been several months ago now.Any ideas please on how to the seat off?

Aye xbally,

Soak the lock in PlusGas-A or a similar releasing oil, give it at least 24 hours to soak and the apply more and gently wiggle the key in the lock!

Had the same problem with an XBR a while back. I think I managed to slide a flat piece of metal, under seat between seat and tail piece, and engage with seat leaver. Bit heavy handed, but worked 😉

Thanks-i'll go find my tools and releasing fluid from the boxes of as yet unsorted boxes in the garage and report back.

No luck yet,found some WD40 and a long screwdriver but no joy.As the roads have dried out i took if for a 25 mile spin-it started on the electric fine.Reckon i might gain some access via the sidpanels.Checked the lock again after the ride but it's still not turning.Fiddling with the screwdriver and a torch refused to move the mechanism either-i've sprayed it again with the WD................

the actual lock spins in the tailpiece  from age, get a coat hanger or similar put a hook on the end of it ,if you look over at the taillight between the light and tail piece you will see the a lock arm , hook on the coat hanger on and pull it toward you and it should open  :o tommy

Try pushing down on the seat and turning the key, works on mine

Yes I'm sure I will Tim, got over much worse. Gotta say tho it was one of those bikes that was hard to hand over. Still now got a couple o quid to inject into the tracker project (which is moving on, albeit quite slowly)

Got a cheap exhaust for the RS off Fleabay but still no time to investigate the seat lock but all advice gratefully taken on board.
