XBR500 Seat Height

Hi All,

Anybody know the seat height of an XBR500?  (Little legs!)  Also any views of their suitability as a first thumper?  Any particular problems to watch out for?  Are parts still fairly easy?  Thinking of getting one you see.........

Hello

XBR seat height is 780mm. Its fairly narrow as well which helps for short folk. If you have a short reach, you may find the clip-ons a bit of a pain but bar risers and extended cables are available and look pretty nice. I've owned one for the last 18 months or so, its my first proper thumper and its an absolute joy to ride. Parts come up on ebay regularly although I believe certain items like rear wheels are becoming more scarce.

One of the best bits about an XBR or an SRX are the people on here - people like Jethro and Onepot may take the rise out of each other all the time, but between them and others they will know all you need to know and are not worried about helping - even if it is only through the pages of a web site.  Personally as a tuning fork man I think the SRX is a far superior bike, but as far as I can see both are excellent thumpers and a fine option as a first.

Rear brake drums can go oval - check to see if the pedal pulses when you (lightly) apply the brake.

One of the cam followers wears (and takes the cam lobe with it) if oil changes are not regular (I'd say change the oil at 1,000 miles). Listen for a tappety noise from the rocker box.

Apart from that they are great and can take tons of abuse. Spares are cheap and the performance is fine for most. The front brake is good and the chassis is more than stiff enough for the power produced. I can do a service on mine in under an hour... all by myself (which is saying something!)

You can get away with slightly shorter shocks and dropping the forks through the yokes (no more than an inch though, and that's dependant on what exhaust is fitted).
