CDI UNITS of Yamaha Srx600 1997
« on: March 19, 2017, 05:34:42 AM »
Hello.. I just have a question for you guys.

Which other CDI unit can I use for my Yamaha Srx 600? Because I can't find it for this model...

I heard that the CDI of Yamaha XT600 could work..

Thanks!!

Hi Frank and welcome,
I believe you can actually use the CDI from the SRX400 (Part Number 1JK-85540-50 and STILL AVAILABLE NEW!!) with no real ill effects, Bill (The Moudie) may be able to shed further light on this matter tho.

Good evening Frank,

Welcome! I hope that you enjoy scanning through the various boards on this forum and their eclectic mix.

This doesn't sound good that your CDI unit has expired. Your engine number from the top of the right hand inner crankcase could help to tie things down as to which unit might be a suitable replacement, but these aren't cheap!  :(

Yamaha XT600E 1997 similar motor to your's I believe, CDI part number: 3TB - 82305 - 10 Cost = £246-20 + P&P + VAT

Yamaha XT600E 1991 similar motor to your's I believe, CDI part number: 3TB - 82305 - 00 Cost = £246-20 + P&P + VAT

Yamaha SRX400E 1991 CDI part number: 3VN - 82305 - 00 Cost = £446-96 + P&P + VAT

All these items are available on "back order" from Fowlers of Bristol  XT600E_1967_Electrics_1

Alternatively, I would advise that you speak with Electrex World, explaining your apparent problem. They may be able to offer you an alternative compatable CDI unit or repair yours. Contact details: Electrex_World_home

Another source of information could be to contact: Martin Sweetman, Slipstream Tuning, Sevenoaks, Kent. Martin has been tuning and racing Yamaha 600 singles for at least 30 years and with the engine number, he may be able to advise on alternatives or supply a unit. Contact details: Slipstream_Tuning_home

I am sorry that I cannot be definitive about these units, but I hope this helps you sort the electrics and get the beastie fired up.  ;)

My regards, Bill

From memory Rex's speed shop had them, although looking the other day they don't seem to have them listed anymore, might be worth giving them a call.

Aye Frank,

Checked my SRX400 mono with XT600E fitted today and the CDI unit on that is the Yamaha SRX400E 1991 CDI part number: 3VN - 82305 - 00

Whether the advance curve etc is the same as the 600cc specific units, or they are all the same unit, with different part numbers, I cannot say!  :-\

My regards, Bill

About 3 years ago,the CDI unit blew on my Mazda 4x4.I bought a second hand unit, but the immobiliser codes needed changing. My garage sent me to a chap in Pontypridd who fixed CDI units. It took him 10 minutes to unsolder and transfer the codes from one box to the other. He had a fixed charge of £80 per CDI.Not bad work! There was a queue of people waiting their turn to be sorted. The point of all this is that he told me he could have fixed the blown CDI,avoiding buying another. This probably wouldn't work with a bike unit that can't be opened. It may be useful info for someone with a blown car CDI though.

there are folks who repair bike cdi's, iirc they use a solvent that disolves the resin that most bike cdi units are embedded in. so its possible, but i cant for the life of me remember the name of the one firm id seen advertising this service. doubtless it will pop into my head at 3am and wake me, if it does, i will post it.

Hello Frank  I have a spare CDI unit which come off a grey import SRX 600.  Numbers on CDI are 1JK-50 and ND 070000-1390. If this helps. The CDI stands me in £45 if you are interested.

Aye gardner and Frank,

Thank you for your input to this thread.

I have had a wee check and this part numbered CDI is listed against the Japanese SRX 400 on this UK repair website: Link_to_Carmo_Electronics_UK_SRX400_1JK-50_070000-1390

Carmo Electrics list a different part number for the CDI for the Japanese SRX600: Link_to_Carmo_Electronics_UK_(SRX600_Denso,1JK51,1JK-50,070000-1391,QAB39)

This muddys the waters rather than definitively clarifying what is what and appears to be for the Japanese twin shock models rather than the later mono shock models that I believe Frank owns.

However, it does provide another potential repairer of CDI units and Carmo Electronics might oblige with a reply to an enquiry using their downloadable *.pdf or *.doc form or you could try contacting them on this advertised number: Contact Carmo electronics by phone: 0044 (0) 1491 682369

My regards, Bill
