XBR CDI unit

Has anyone ever tried a CDI from another model eg a 650 or a 400 ? Just something I was wondering the other day when I was mounting my speedway bike ignition. With this I can change the advance curve whereas on the standard you are stuck with advance that Honda have given you.

I have used a cdi from a Honda XL600R the advance comes in quicker and has more total advance, I have heard of XL400 cdi being used. You can get even more total advance changing the timing trigger on the crank, NX and FMX have quite a narrow trigger, the XBR and XL's have a wider trigger and the XR is the widest this gives you more total advance, I have seen ones welded up and ground to shape. There is no way to change the factory advance cdi curves, but there is a Czeck company making fully programmable ignitions

I was just being curious as I have changed cdi's on other bikes over the years. The main reason I have gone down the route I have with this one is I don't want to run a battery and it will be able to be adapted as the engine progresses.
