Does he want to take up residence in my shed?  He can make a whole travel set of silk purses out there...

Don't think his missus will allow it, when he did the morini a few years back, he dragged something into the living room to polish every day over the winter! he was told...never again!,  since then he's moved, and built a very nice workshop/garage, built in hoist, airlines the lot, so he's been banished to the garage most nights for the last 2 months!, and still getting earache!.....but I think the finished product will be worth it

Evening Steve,

Seems I'm a very lucky man.

Kat enjoys assisting in the garage, even have the meals whilst sitting in the comfy chairs next to the stove, rather than eat in the house!

Any views about tappet clearances? I intend to go ahead with the 0.10mm (0.004") which appears to be universal for all the later 'unit' Heron head engines.

All the best for Friday.

Regards, Bill

rear-sets will be finished tomorrow evening , and i'm collecting a full set of braided hoses + fittings tomorrow ( straight swop for a set of standard srx shocks)

Saw a suggestion on bleeding brakes - if you have the front end off - stand it upside down overnight and all the air bubbles will rise to the top - ie bottom.  Putting up the right way next day and bleeding - the now big air bubble will float up to the now uppermost bleed nipple.

Sounds a fag but if the front end was off....

Should have told you earlier....

Aye Steve,

I hope all goes well with the rebuild.

Wee tip for brake bleeding is to use a 500ml 'horse' syringe from the local vetniry and a soft rubber hose onto the bleed nipple to apply a vacuum and back bleed the system. The Child slavery principal or helpful wife [as described elsewhere on this site] is very useful under these circumstances for maintaining fluid levels in the resevoir.

Do you think #1 would take to the former label?

Cheers, Bill

Spent all last night farting about with these bluddy rear-sets, even using mine as patterns wasn't such a good idea, mounting holes on #4 frame (a uk bike) 2mm different to my #1 frame (grey import) ,bu55er!!! ended up welding up two holes and re-drilling, on the plus side I got the braided hoses and various other bits and bobs, but! my banjo bolt brake light switch is the wrong thread!!! 1.0 instead of 1.25, gawd and bennet...it's these little things that take the time...friday MOT looking a bit iffy now....but we'll soldier on...

Steve...the 2 bolt holes for the original footrests....they appear to be different left and right on each bike and left on the uk bike is different to left on the grey import as is the right too. Only a mm or so.....a few swipes with the round file

Well, #4 is alive and well, looking sweet, MOT'd, taxed and insured (2n'd bike on my policy , AND THEY DIDN'T CHARGE ME ANYTHING!!), no leaks..though Son is worried about a noise that he thinks is the camshaft (see bike problems section),
the brakes were an absolute 5OD to bleed! considering we are using braided lines and run both up to the front master cylinder on a double banjo..... i ran over a litre of oil through before we had satisfactory pressure, finished half an hour before MOT due!   the r e a r s e t s were a bu55er to fabricate, but worth the effort.... and just picked up a stainless chainguard from a mate ....looked so good, i got one for mine too.... i'll do a piccy and stick it on here....he'll do them for 40 quid, may be a bit less if a few are ordered. So,  assuming Son gets it run in, in the next few weeks, we should have a good time riding up to the IOM for mad sunday....
