XBR petrol tap OUCH!!!!!!

Hi fellas. I got the GB out of the garage today as the lecky board fellas want in to do a bit of work on my meter. I fired the bike up to move it and noticed the petrol tap was leaking from around the lever bit which you turn. Is there an easy fix? There is a flange (easy now Michael  ;) ) on it, where "on & Off" is written which I thought I could just nip up. When I put my glasses on it appears to be riveted on, not screwed. The bike is in for it`s test in a week, which it will fail because of the leak (maybe the headlight too) Please tell me there`s an easy quick fix that`s not going to cost a fortune  ::) Cheers, Steve.  ;)

Sorry but can't help you out on this one Steve, I've been lucky (kiss of death statement coming up) as non of my taps av given me any trouble.......SO FAR

Mine sometime leaks a drip as you turn it from closed to open but never otherwise.

NRP do a repair kit but mine isn't bad enough to warrent buying one yet.

Thanks SteveC, mine`s only leaking when you touch it ie turn or wiggle, I wonder if it would be alright for test? Trouble is, the flange with "on/off" on it is riveted in place, how would I get new seals in behind it?  :-\ Thanks.

According to the kit blurb

"Internal Viton seals for the sealed [rivetted] tap. Requires drilling and tapping a thread in the place of the rivets. All seals and screws for re-assembly supplied. Intstructions sent with order"

As long as it isn't leaking when it's switched on I would have thought it would be OK.

Yes Steve, NRP do a kit, and you drill out the rivets, and tap threads. Never done one, but sounds simple enough.

If it isn't leaking once it's turned on then leave it on when you turn up for the MOT and chances are they won't even touch it!

Ouch and double Ouch!!!!!

I decided to buy a new tap for the GB which is the close on £100 ....... Ouch!  Went to CMSNL to order it, went through the processes, (add to basket, checkout etc) and it said they couldn`t process the order. Checked my purchase history with them and sure enough the order had been declined.

I went back on the internet and found the part in the US, so bought it $98 plus postage plus import duty.

Received an email with a tracking number, so clicked on it to see where it was ....... bloody Holland!! ...... Received another email with tracking number, so clicked on it to see where it was ...... bloody Georgia!! .......

After declining my purchase CMSNL have decided to process it so I`ve bought TWO BLOODY TAPS!!!!!! at over £200 ..... double Ouch  >:(  >:(  :o

The CMSNL one arrived today, so what do I do?? Send it back?? Keep it as a spare?? Try and flog it at a slightly discounted price??  :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\

Anyone want to buy a GB500 fuel tap  ???

Send em both back. Try the old dodge of sealing a petrol tap/pipe/banjo/union leak - carbolic soap - got me out of a fix before.

Tell CMSNL what has happened - it is their system that has caused the problem and you should be able to return it for  a refund.

....You're not having a lot of luck with this GB!!

Teething problem Steve...I hope  :-\ I am more than happy with it, it`s a lovely little thing but got the dreaded Manx test on Friday which is a lot worse and more strict than a UK mot  :o
