Electrical query

So, I'm just arriving at my mates house, on the Vigor, when there's a sort of a popping sound, and the bike is completely dead. I was on a hill, so bump started in second on the hill, and reached his house.
Tried to restart bike, and completely dead. I only fitted a new battery a week ago 
Anyway, we put the battery on charge for the afternoon, and I went pillion on his bike to the road racing.
Returned to a fully charged battery. Put it in bike, and she started and I rode home. Then wouldn't start again. On closer inspection, I find that one of the connectors from the reg/rec has disconnected, so there's the answer.
My query is, will I have done my new battery any damage?
PS. The old battery was deco scrap, as it was tested, and found to be done.

Hi Timbo

I'm no expert but I wouldn't have thought there would be any damage to the battery. I once ran a Triumph by just charging the battery daily for a week until I could afford a new regulator. Bless the days when we got a brown envelope at the end of the week with green notes in it!

It'll be fine. If you left it fully discharged for any length of time (read weeks) it might be a different matter but even then I've been able to rescue batteries that have been neglected and they've been OK.

OTOH I've had nearly new, coddled ones just fail for no apparent reason.

i wouldnt fret, 1970s/80s suzukis had one of the 3 phases wired through the headlight switch, so that wheneveer you were riding with the lights off you were only getting 2 phases anyhow. just run it and see how it goes.
