Hard to tell.
Being used to Norton twins and the like which are quite capable of dropping a litre of oil into the crankcase over a weekend, I must say the SLR seems very good in that respect. Maybe trochoidal pumps are better at keeping the oil where it belongs than gear pumps?
Mmm possibly. Certainly modern tolerances and surface finish are likely to be better, but that's countered by generally lower viscosity oil I guess?
A better explanation is simply that I'm wrong and this is a check valve after all.

the circuit is starting to make sense to me now I think. My bro Moto 63 has an xbr in pieces I think. Might get a chance to take a closer look. I'm not stripping the fmx motor. It looks in very good nick.
Someone on here will know for sure.
