SP370 Rear Shocks??
« on: December 06, 2015, 10:41:26 PM »
Hi fella`s. I`m still gathering bits for my SP before I start my DIY restoration (riding quality not show). Can anyone suggest where I could get a decent set of rear shocks for a reasonable price? I`m supposed to be going to look at another SP this week for spares (supposed to look last week but due to floods I cancelled my journey) so IT may have decent shocks but don`t know yet?? Thanks  ;)

This place stocks suitable shocks but I've not come across the brand so no idea what they're like. I think the sp was 13 1/4" between centres.

Aye Manxie,

Flooding? May I ask where on Mona's Fair Isle was there flooding?

Getting back to the query, may I offer this link to a company whom I have dealt with? Bike_Revival_rear_shocks I purchased a pair of Betor shocks, which are as good as Hagons and used by some when racing small Italian motorcycles for a reasonable price. They also have a wide range of other manufacturers and models of shock to choose from. Helpful when asking for extra information, by phone, afore ordering.

NJB shocks are also another small outfit (one man band, ex-Girling engineer) who was very helpful and the shocks have worked well. Link: NJB_shocks

My regards, Bill

Thanks fella`s, a couple of great links there  :)

Hi Bill, the whole island was badly hit. The area`s I know which were bad was Andreas where I live,  Parliament Square in Ramsey, the Mountain was shut due to a land slide on the Mountain Mile (it was bad up there with rocks washing down the road) Quarter Bridge was bad as the water built up on the rugby pitch next to it, then bursting through the wall, across the road and taking out the wall on the opposite side....and cars with it, Peel Road by McDonalds was bad, Foxdale was bad, Ballig Bridge to Laurel Bank about 4ft deep, Bus Depot near Tesco was bad ..... generally everywhere. The worst hit I would say was Laxey. Loads of places flooded (4-6 feet deep) and the 200yr old bridge in lower Laxey near the Shore pub washed away with a double decker bus on it at the time!! If you go to manx.net there are some video links there. Luckily know body was hurt... miracle. There`s also been other land slides and tree`s down. Mind you, looks like the UK has had it after us? Not good. Hope know one on here has been caught up in it?  :o

Cheers, Steve.

Aye Manxie,
That sounds pretty grim.  :(  Anywhere steep and with confined watercourses, like the Glens, will have copped it.
I used to bide in Peel and work in the old Forestry Lands and Mines Board, so know most of the places you speak of. As you say, not good at all and those walls next to the rugby pitch aren't 'thin'!
As usual over here, the BBC fixates on Englandshire and in Scotland, Hawick and Langholm have hogged the limelight. However, 14" rain in one 'dod' will always cause a scoosh.
On Friday night I had a frog hopping about the front door in all the rain, wind and a temperature of 12°C at 22:00pm!  :o
Stay safe.
My regards, Bill

12 degree`s at 10pm....crazy  ???  As you say, the glens had it tough and the walls were Manx stone so yes, not easy to push over. I`m only going on about it because it`s the worst I`ve seen in my 47 yrs of life but looking at the telly the UK has had it worse damage wise, I`m sure Ireland must have had it too but not heard too much about that? How long have you been in the UK? My cousin works for forestry, Mr Lee, you may know him? Cheers Bill, Steve.

Hi Steve, the western part of NI got hit the worst, Fermanagh, Tyrone, and L/Derry. Apparently it was the wettest 24 hour period since records began  :(

Aye Steve,

That would be the man who had the Suzuki GT185 twin in 1977 and whom enjoyed the Quo at the Villa Marina at the TT!  ;D  Please give my regards to James,  I am also still in contact with Ali (CB200 in the day!) on the odd occasion for both business and a blether. James must be the last man standing, whom I would know now, as "Elvis" sadly passed away this year.

Sorry about the 'code', but you and James will know whom I mean. PM me if you wish to continue the blether, rather than taking this even more 'off topic'.  ::)

I have a friend who was driving up from the south of the Island on Thursday night with the water coming through the field gateways ~ 2' deep across the road. The journey in a Golf was described as "epic" and the boating lake that was the Tesco car park with "bobbing" cars as the River Glass came over the top of the wall, a sight to behold.

Another dose for us on Wednesday night and blowing a hoolie again forecast. Batten down the hatches!

My regards, Bill

Well ...... I went to look at the SP for spares today. There was loads of bits missing but it had an engine (don't know its condition) two wheels which looked in good shape, a petrol tank which obviously needs a refurb but loads better than mine, rear shocks didn`t look too bad...may clean up? forks looked great with gaiters and appear to be in lovely condition...yeah!!!! So I bought it, just need to find someone with a van who could pick it up for me. I suppose I could remove the rear seats of my PT Cruiser and see if she fits  ??? Price .... £20  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Just picked the spare SP up, very pleased. The tank is better than I thought it was and the forks are spot on....yes  ;D

Just need to sell the Guzzi now, make room in the garage and then get crackin`. Eventually wouldn`t mind buying an XBR or an SRX-6  ;)
