FX650 Vigor refurb
« on: October 26, 2015, 11:12:28 PM »
Not exactly a major project, but I gave the Vigor a tidy up. These bikes came in either blue or yellow, but this one was a blue version, but with the bright yellow tank. Rather distinctive. Too distinctive!
The bike is now all black, with the swingarm, footrest hangers, etc shotblasted and finished in two pac semi gloss. I stripped out all the swing arm and mono-shock needle roller bearings, which were in a sorry state. Replaced what I had to, and cleaned and greased up what was salvageable. I also treated the shock to a protective neoprene tube. I've mentioned before that I prefer twin shocks, as they're so simple, and most mono-shock linkages seem to have suffered total neglect, which can add up to spending quite a few pound notes  :(
This was Alison's first attempt at painting a tank and its turned out really well in XBR black with nice silver generic Honda decals.
So I rattled about on the bike over the spring and early summer and was going to sell it. That is, until the rear shock failed :( Apparently they all do this at around 20k.
But I got lucky, and discovered somewhere on here that an SV650 shock will fit. Much more commonly available and hence a way cheaper option at £35 off fleabay. A Hagon replacement would be over £300. Physically it appears to be the same size, but with a different spring size. Only fitted it today, so don't know how the bike handles with it yet.
I removed the standard fitment rear carrier, and I think this improves the overall lines of the bike.

That looks very tidy. Nice one :D
If I'm not working I'll be away on my bike camping!

Very nice. It does look much sleeker without the rack but I find it too handy to remove.

Well the SV650 shock seems to have done the trick. Well impressed with the handling, and a cheap fix  :)
