XBR 500 calapers

Hi all I'm new to the list having just brought a 1985 XBR500.Really pleased with how it goes (the most fun I've had on a bike since I sold my 450 Des mo) the only work I have done so fare is to fit a braided brake line as the old one was probable 30 years old,it now stops without the leaver coming back to the bars MAGIC!
Now for my first of many further questions there is talk of stainless pistons & slide pins on the list,can any one tell me where I can get ether or better still both?

Have you tried Wemoto, or Dave Silvers?

You can get the pistons and seals from Wemoto, I've just fitted some to my XBR and they fit fine. Not sure about the pins, I think Wemoto use to sell them but I can't find them now- might be worth giving them a call as they will probably fit several bikes.

Worth giving the caliper a full overhaul as the pistons do tend to stick.

Trouble is the standard ones soon rust and then sieze, usually only one will sieze so you only get half the braking you should have. It's an easy if messy job and one thing you don't want to skimp on is your brakes.

On my TRX850 track bike i have CBR600 F3 Forks have the dreadful 2 pot sliding calipers.I have upgraded these with CB900 Hornet calipers which are Nissin 4 pot. These are a huge improvement. I suspect the same might soon get fitted to my XBR. I had to make adapror brackets for the TRX and suspect similar brackets will be required for the XBR.
I'll post up when i do it in case anyone else is interested.

Unless theyre really bad, you can usually clean up the existing pistons, and fit new seals which are cheap

I gave my xbr caliper a good clean out fitted new seals ,pads and fluid its working great the last couple of years ,I also put a master cyclinder seal kit in , been away for a week and just finished that book tim ,your right about the amount of bikes that guy had I was a courier for 15 years back in the 80,s /90,s and was happy to have a xl ., rs or a xbr   ha tommy

A Nissin 4-pot might be a bit much for a road tyre. I had one on my XBR track bike with a VFR750FJ disc and it worked very well except that I then had to uprate the fork springs to stop the forks bottoming out; a good fork brace is needed as well. From what I remember you will struggle to fit a 4-pot on the standard disc without it hitting the spokes. I would like to see how you get on with that I'm a big fan of those calipers and they can be picked up cheap.
