CB250RSA FRONT BRAKE UPGRADE
« on: July 17, 2014, 12:24:24 PM »
Does anyone know whether an XBR caliper will fit the RS250?I have a spare one and seem to recall this mod having been done in the past?It could however have been a disc swap that i dimly recall? I appreciate the differences between the 2 models but my XBR front brake inspires at lot more confidence than the RS.

Hi xbally, I can remember a friend of mine in Bewdley telling me that with a little modification the front brake off the 250 Superdream provided a significant improvement over the RS one. I'll try to contact him and come back to you.

Thanks Dave.
I know the 400 has double discs as I used to have a 250 with such a set up.
Off on hols for a week in (hopefully ) sunny Devon now.
Still making plans for the new RS project by the way.

Hi Martin I'm reliably informed that the single disc off the 250 Superdream plus the caliper carrier too are what's needed whilst the original RS's caliper continues to be used..................Regards.....Dave.

As a ps Martin the Superdream model has to be the one with the single piston caliper (the vast majority as the more-or-less final run used a twin-piston set-up) with the disc diameter of 10.3/4"  whereas the original RS is of 9.4". Apparently the entire swap can be done in 30 minutes ending up with a disproportionate improvement in braking.

Hi Martin ,  just to add possibly another braking solution to your rs. I believe the front disc from a cb 750/900 of the same period (early 80,s ) bolts straight onto the rs hub, then you can an use an XBR calliper however I think approx 2mm needs to be machined of the calliper carrier for it to line up correctly with the "new" disc. Maybe the super dream disc as suggested by dicksracther is the same as the 750/900, not sure. Keep us posted of developments, best regards Michael

Hi Moto63 that sounds like an alternative that's worth looking into.
