Suggestions on glue to use to fix this
« on: July 09, 2014, 09:32:07 PM »
I have used silicon sealant before and that seems to be holding well on the other inlet rubber.
Just wonder if there is a better glue anyone knows about?

Believe it or not Evostik, preparation is the answer thin the glue out with paint thinners and paint it on both items and let it dry completey, then fit both items together, sorted. All the rubber components fitted to Lynx helicopters are fitted like this,,,, yes I was that man.

Thanks for the responses chaps.

Never heard of gorilla glue - I will investigate that one some more.

500TC, by paint thinners do you mean white spirit or cellulose thinners?

Gorilla glue is a polyurethane based glue which moisture cures, good stuff but expands quite a bit as it,s curing so ideally needs the pieces clamping together

+1 for the old fashioned Evostic. It also cure hardens with heat. Trick is to keep parts clean and then after adhesive is applied, not to assemble too quickly.

I use it all the time to make bath sides! :o
If I'm not working I'll be away on my bike camping!

There is a high temperature silicone adhesive available now. They use it in exhaust pipes in place of Gun-Gum paste of old..
