I was just wondering if anyone has any ideas of the Yamaha 250 Scorpio.  I need a small bore replacement for the SR250, and was thinking of going Sachs Madass , this or maybe a twin (heaven forbid) but the 250 Viragos are going for a good price at the moment. Her indoors will make the ultimate decision.

depends on how much you want to spend , with a small budged i would go for the suzuki gn250 , at least its a thumper and you can improve the look for small money without spending a fortune

Thanks Micheal, but the Yamaha as shown in the you tube bit is a little out of my league. Maybe in my younger years I would have had one if they had one. I could only play around on 2 bangers like DT175 DT90 etc. I have since found out that the Scorpio is 225 and up till now only avail in Indonesia, with them being released in Australia only within the last couple of weeks.. looks ok and only $A4450. A nice green one would make a good stablemate for the Skorpion.
My old SR250 didn't approve of my riding style and suggested bluntly that I take a 7 week respite from riding. As I am not married to it, I think I should just quietly move on to a new ,younger littley for zapping around town.

NB for sale;1980  SR 250 recently overhauled(by everything else on the road) and very cheap. still mainly original, except for the redback paint scheme, and motocross handlebars.

a sorry didn`t know your age ..... but then there are some real good 250`s around ..my one is one of them ,dont know if you can get it in australia  the honda cbf250 its a good small bike i use it for riding around europe on hollidays and for going to work and for shopping trips  it does easy over 90mpg and gets up to 80mph

could not find a lot about the yamaha sx4 scorpio , but its a similar bike so should bring about the same pleasure to ride , the cbf is a little bigger 16liter tank compare to 13literat the scorpio  . the engine of the cbf is a bit more high tech ,4 valve head compare to two valves at the scorpio, the cbf has wider tyres on aloy wheels and the scorpio has weired wheels , so basically its a matter of your personal taste ..to make it easy here pics to compare

Yes, good bike. I've got a Serow, which is the same engine in a lightweight trail frame. After fitting a 16t front sprocket it kept up with motorway traffic easily, and it's comfortable on long trips. Bulletproof, lasts forever, economical, heaps of fun, goes anywhere.

Kurt, I was away for a couple of weeks showing my sister (from Cal) some excellent beaches and rainforests. Had to use the Toyota, unfortunately. The Serow may be gutless, but it doesn't break or fall down. I got it as a Jap import. The Kawasaki Sherpa is said to be better, but it costs more.

you certainly may ask yourself now ..why the hell does he look for 250`s if he`s got a full bike lisence ...
 answer:  because there are now so many speed limits in europe and even mores speed traps around , fuel is getting more and more expenciv  so a 250 realy makes sence  they all get you to 80mph and they return around 90-120mpg
best i had out of mine was 116mpg  and as i`ve been on a 3500 miles trip around europe (belgium, germany,swizerland ,italy, france )i proved you can tour with them even on long distances and 600miles a day are not impossibel on a 250 , ok on high speed runs (85-90mph on motorways in germany) you need loads of fuel , had to fill up after only 250miles (still about 3 liter reseve left) 14 liter- 250 miles isnt realy bad (around 80mpg ) but thats what you need if you want to travel  , in france/italy i found somtimes loads of the fuel stations are closed around lunchtime or even totally closed on sundays or during the week on one day most monday or wednesday ,sometimes you cant find one for 30 odd miles so its quit handy to have a reserve range of around 50-70 miles ok i didnt use main roads because i want to see more then motorway services in my holllidays
