OMG Scary or what. The only explanation seems to be that newish looking Ural in the top pictures has had the chair removed using a hacksaw and is now bodged onto the air head. Possibly the Ural tug destroyed itself mechanically? Why on earth he didn't simply take the engine out of the beemer and weld the lugs on is beyond me though.

Mmm should have used a smaller jubilee clip and mounted the worm screw above the frame, could have bashed the Ural frame flatter to wrap around the beemer frame.  Appears to be bolted at the back and elsewhere.  Mind he did use exhaust clamps elsewhere - why not here.

As a man who knows nothing - is there any real loading going through here or is it just preventing small twisting around the bolted mount slightly rearward - that appears to be cracked - or maybe not.  Not knowing what else is going on I cannot decide whether this is structural or just a tidying up - the bolt back a piece will be holding the plot, the chair frame I guess flexes but does not rotate (unless it is broken) so does the JC hold the chair on at this mount - or does it just stop the mount rotating a little and leaving a sticky out bit of metal.

Mind I have to agree a) whatever the case it looks a mess. b) Welding a beemer frame is not exactally sacrilege and should not be irreversable, c) Beemer engine would have been a nice addition to the Ural - unless this was too broken.

Damn I would love a Ural....  or the like - preferably the one with two wheel drive - probably a disaster as far as a charriot goes but I like the quirky

Nope, I'm no expert on chairs(!) but this isn't even debatable. It's just plain dangerous :( a jubilee clip is not a structural fixing, not ever, not even "to prevent rotation" or "done in anger"... and don't start me on using car exhaust clamps in that way. FFS, he'll be lucky to get away with a flaming for it and not a visit to casualty/the morgue.
I understand broke, and I understand bodging, but that is just stupidity in action.

I feel the need to add, please please please, if anyone is reading this and thinking of fitting a chair, please speak to some of the members on here who have chairs, and some of them a great deal of experience who can save you from expense and injury, but whatever you do DON'T copy this guys example :(

why doesn't he just step out in front of a truck.
It would have the same end result and save an airhead bm from his abuse.
I've bodged many things using zip-ties, fence wire and shoelaces when stranded, but none of those bodges were in anyway dangerous. imagine the loading that 1/4 ton of bmw could put on that joint when the side car is loaded up and being thrown around a roundabout!
Its thanks to this muppet that we have sva tests that stop many fantastic and interesting vehicles being used or even built.

i hope his wife looks like cherie blairs' uglier sister.

Oh! Was it something said here, or do you think the penny has dropped?

This is what you get if you use GC's URL connection:

"Airhead Motorcycles
Thanks for the interest, the article caused offence so I cease and desist. "

Might I suggest the combination of the third from last and last words in the sentence, could be interpreted as "deceased". A certain irony!

Pass the Barbour belt and baler twine, I need to practise my whipping and splicing to obtain the 'Framemaker' bodge, er badge.

But he does have a bit of sponge type stuff to stop it scratching the paint on the frame !

Oh Yes !  There are a lot of forces acting upon the mounting points twixt bike and sidecar.
I had a bolt break at a clevis on a GS450/Velorex outfit mid corner...........Very Exciting !!!!!!
The road went to the right....... I set it up...BANG !....sidecar leaning to the left...bike leaning the right !

It felt very peculiar to say the least.
