amal carb reservoir flooding

 anyone know why this might be happening i've had the thing apart a dozen times now cleaned it out it all works great with the top off but as soon as i screw the top back on turn the fuel on and out it flows

Try fitting the say up floats, they are a lot better and are available direct from Amal

In 47 years of bike riding I always thought that Amals were supposed to leak, they were made that way, mine always looked like brown furry things stuck to the back of the 'head'. The only cure I found was to swap them for Mikunis or something similar and strangely they rarely leaked, surprising what good design does !.

never had leaks till now but i only had this one and only had it 2 years !

2 years ?, you're only just starting, you've got a great future in front of you !. Being serious I never found Amals either Monobloc or Concentric (Eccentric) particularly good at holding their fluid and age didn't help one little bit. After several attempts with new gaskets and seals usually with limited success, replacement seemed the only real option. With most old Brit iron there was usually adequate space to fit an alternative which also had other benefits like easier more reliable starting and better mpg. I had getting on for 30 years of Dell or'tos the Italian equivalent of Amal which also developed a will of their own with age. Can't say that I've ever had any problems with Jap carbs no matter how old. Best of luck getting your problem sorted.

I have never had any trouble with Amal carbs, assemble them correctly and dont over tighten anything and they are fine.
