An electric dishwasher does a better job. Take the carb apart and arrange all the bits so they won't get washed down the drain. Jets can be cleaned with a butane lighter-refill tank. Butane is a great solvent under pressure and will clean the tiniest jets.

Thanks Terry, but the dishwasher said she would slap me if I asked her again. But I do have a compressor. Butane sounds beaut to boot though.

Make sure the Butane is ignition free though!  ;D :o

I had a very small fire on my old TS50X many years ago and the only way I knew what was originally the carb was by the slide and what was left of the throttle cable still attached to it!  :(

Real non diet Coke works well for soaking carbs that are really gummed up, but don't leave for too long (no more than overnight without checking) as some cheaper ally carbs might start to go porous if left for a few days. This is also true of some off the shelf cleaners too!

I found this out the hard way, 60 miles from home with fuel slowly seeping its way through the float bowl of my KH.

Electric dish washers are great for all kinds of stuff. A car mechanic friend of mine brought a second hand one (£20) for out in his garage and everything that will fit ends up in there!
