charity request!
« on: January 30, 2007, 11:10:45 AM »
Hello all,

This is a bit of a longshot…

I noticed that the tank I’m using on the racebike has re-developed the leak I repaired a couple of years ago.  I’m not that keen on bodging it again.

Does anyone have an SRX twinshock tank they want shot of?  Obviously I'd cover carriage costs, I may even be able to BUY it, if its cheap!  Condition is fairly unimportant (tho if it were clean inside, I’d be happy!), I had planned on filling and paining the orange monstrosity anyway.  I know they’re not that common, and don’t really expect one to turn up but maybe...?

Oh!  Just noticed pics are now posted in the “Project” section.  Look!  You can see the rusty solvent marks.  Glad it didn’t let go in race 1.

Alternatively, if anyone is good at making ally tanks??!  Nope, thought not!

But thanks to all who have helped so far- remaining nameless, you know who you are!!

Cheers for now

Andy!  get the fibreglass out!  they wouldn't let me out at cadwell last year as my belly/catch pan didn't quite cover the rear of the engine cases (your's looks similar?)

Wasted a whole entrance fee!  (Got to watch John crash spectacularly though!) (On my race bike though!)  Doh.......

Hi John

Yeah, cheers, I'd clocked that, it will need a bit of fettling to size.  Its a daft rule that anyway, I mean, will it really catch all the oil??  Good idea, in theory, on the off-chance you stay vertical...

Speak to you soon.  Will you make the start of the season in April??

I have one you can have if you cover postage costs (i'll post and you can refund later) Its off a twinshock srx400 silver, small dent one side where switchgear has hit it. As far as I know it is solid but I haven't rode it for a couple years.  Contact me with your address, and let me know if you would prefer 1st class, recorded delivery, other courier etc.  <no problem>  allow a couple weeks for me to sort it out.

Without a doubt Duncan, you are the jammiest bloody sod in the entire world. We can only hope (for Scotland's sake) that the International Olympic Committee make up their minds about making blagging an olympic event in 2012.

Wow!!  Brilliant, thanks.  That would be great, and there's no hurry for it.  Maybe I'll come and collect it, could be a nice run from London?

Annoyingly I gave away for a song an old beat tank I had, about 2 years ago- would have been perfect.  Most un-blaggerly behaviour.

Also, I've had another, possibly slightly daft idea.  What do you (plural!) think about:

- cutting the bottom out the existing SRX tank, keeping the top
- I have monkey bike tank, holds about 7 litres.  Use this (or a similar thing, maybe in ally?  appearance unimortant- Ebay?) as the real tank
- fit the top of the tank to retain appearance.  Or copy it in fibreglass.  Bash it up- no matter!!

Might be a bit lighter overall, its also very cheap!  I may try this before robbing you of yours (it is a spare isn't it?  You'd never sell a bike/project without it)

Cheers for now, my email address is  norton[underscore]bike[underscore]boy[at]hotmail[dot]com

Thanks for the offer JHop!
