XBR 500 Tyres?

Showing ignorance here when I say that I don't actually know what tyres are on the bike at the moment !
I do know that they are pretty cheap and crappy and in no way suitable for going round bendy bits in the road, especially if there has been a memory of any rain in the past 3 weeks!
Anybody know what is the best for good handling, preferably some that are rated as good in rain. Preferably not too expensive either.

Bridgestone BT45's work well on the SRX. But they dont last particularly well.

Hmmm, well tyres tend to be a matter of personal choice, but Bridgestone BT45's are generally reckoned  to be some of the best.

Agreed, BT45s are good. I've got a set of Continental 'Go!' tyres on the GB but it hasn't rolled on them yet so I can't report on their performance.

Avon RoadRiders are fine on the SRX and the BROS. Good mileage, grip in the wet and no tread failures, unlike Metzelers!

You'll need the Finnish spikes soon, if you have what we now have. ICE!

Looks like I'll be hunting for the Bridgestones.
Am I safe to assume that, having the spoked wheels, it won't be tubeless tyres?
Is there any difference in the model number I should look for as I see 110/90-18 V or T or worrever?

Hi Dogbad,
its best to look for the lowest suitable rating for your bike: the higher ratings are meant for much quicker and usually much heavier bikes: unless you do track days they will never warm up.
H should be the highest you need.
I've found BT45's to be the best non-radial tyre for road use.

ONCE my Avons have worn out , I will be fitting Conti's , as I fit them to all my bikes...

Another thumbs-up for the BT45's just ordered a front last night as that's what I've used for the last year and a half.Though the original Michelin pilot? was on before but left little room between the mud guard.Saying that when looking the other day i found the Michelin tyre on busters site for £41.99.Was very tempted.Round and black on fleabay are VERY fast delivery and well priced.

Had a wee chat to a bike dealer in Preston and he told me he could get me a set put on, BT 45's, for £195-00 cash!  I decided that I'll pay this months spending money out on paying the bit I still owe on the KLR 650, Next Month I might Tax it and January I might be able to look at new tyres for the XBR.
If I hadn't seen such riches I could live with being poor!

I know it's been a while since I bought a set, but that strikes me as at least £50 too much. Central Wheels list the XBR's sizes at £146 a pair. A lot of shops will fit them for free if you buy through them. My local mechanic charges £5 a tyre change if you bring the wheel in i.e. if he doesn't have to take it off and refit it himself.

Do you have a local mobile tyre fitter?

'Veroom' (in Preston) list a pair of BT45s (100/90 and 110/90 H18) for about £147.

It seems to me that you can buy them from anywhere for £145 and you'd still have £50 to play with for fitting before you get to the price charged by your bike shop.
