Yokes/bars etc on XBR 500?
« on: October 22, 2010, 12:27:09 AM »
Following on from Brendan0's wanted ad'.
I would like a higher bar position on the XBR 500.  Money is scarce and technical ability has left me after I broke me Head!
Any ideas, advice, gifts of money etc? ???

Is there enough flat metal underneath the yoke so that it could be drilled through to take regular bar mounts?

Yes there is. I bought a set of risers and alloy taper bars for my GB (same bike) and that made a world of difference.

No need to, Honda CBX550 bars will fit straight on.  I think all the cables fittoo apart from the choke cable.

I'll have a wander round the local bike dealers and see what they've got in the spares bin!!
I do like the idea of using any pattern bars with the Raask risers but £70-plus is not going to happen this month :o

I agree, CBX550FII bars go straight on.

I've had two of the CBX 550s in my biking time. Definitely a brilliant bike for their time. Last one I had was hand finished in Hammerite!  Still ran lovely though and I would love one now ::)

Alright gents - don't tell EVERYONE about the CBX550 bars, I've not got a set yet (don't think Dogbad has either!). The clamp-on risers I was thinking of were about £30, from Busters (I think), no drilling so leaves top yoke std. My Dad bought this XBR new, so I'd prefer not to bugger about with it too much (apart from not ruining my back!).

Have ridden it on a few occasions over the last 25 years...used to find drop bars fine, but now find it a bit annoying unless really going for it. 2-up it's VERY annoying after a while.  Drove it Castle Douglas (SW Scotland to Embra 2 weeks back (100 miles), and while I can live with it, I'd prefer to really enjoy it.

I also went through a few years with U.S. bars on my T140. After a few years of it off the road, I found them awful too...fitted moto x bars instead. Funny how yr opinion changes.
