CB250RS >>> CB250N
« on: August 23, 2010, 04:26:01 PM »
Anyone know if the twin exhaust off the Honda CB250N will fit a single cylinder, twin exhaust, CB250RS? The Motad on my RS is looking a bit ropey and I can't justify £240 for a new one for a £50 bike! If this doesn't work I might look into having S/S downpipes made that will fit a universal exhaust/end can.

Love and best wishes as always.......

Boyd. Have got a new Super Dream exhaust in the attic, ready for my (eventually) refurb-ed 250N. If the rain ever stops, I'll whiz it out to the RS and see how it looks.
PS - you ever had any probs with the RS carb? Bored last weekend and took mine apart for a quick clean. Now, the bugger runs really rich. Had it off a couple of times and triple checked everything. Even took the float height down to 12.5 mm and the plugs are still sooty as hell.
Cheers - Danny

Cheers for that. Not sure if they are even similar, but there are more 'N' systems on Ebay than there are 'RS' so thought it might be worth a try.

Regarding the carb. Mine, prior to the current strip down due to knackered exhaust stud/rocker box bolts, always ran fine apart from the very occasional stall (usually at the lights when I've smugly filtered on the outside). I'm hoping that if I only clean it externally it should go straight back on.......No! I must admit that it does seem an overly complex bit if kit, given that it is fitted to a small commuter bike. Having checked the official Honda manual, as opposed to the Haynes thing (which I also have), the trouble shooting points to check for running too rich are as follows:

Choke stuck closed
Float valve faulty
Float level too high
Carb air jets clogged
Sticking float
Dirty air cleaner

Hope this helps(?)

Cheers

no, it wont fit. 250n is a twin, pipes are too large diamiter to fit the ports on the rs

Thanks for that John. Exactly the answer I was expecting but at least I won't be wasting my time chasing the wrong pipes.

Boyd, check the accelerator pump is not sticking. This could account for the richness.

Boyd - sorry it's taken so long. Crap weather prevented life going on. I see that you got an answer on the Super Dream pipes. Took em down this morn and, as the other chaps said, they don't fit.
Did you have any joy getting a cheapo replacement?

Thanks for looking anyway. With regards to the replacement zorst I'm waiting on a S/S XL250 front pipe, which would be different, but will obviously need work to route the back end. Would actually like to have a higher level exhaust as I've always thought the current Motad set-up a bit vulnerable to speed humps etc. If I did get this pipe I'd probably look at some knobblier tyres come the next change.

Cheers
