Anyone here fitted a new camchain ?

I AM capable of doing it ..
Have fitted camchains to Triumph Hinckley triples, XT500, CB250RS.
Need to know if its just the usual cam box / clutch cover off job ?

Anyone got a FREE link to a workshop manual or a CD one PLEASE ???

Mine is clacking now & again & gets quieter if you move the chrome tensioner plate
at the top of the cylinder head..

Also ive noticed that my tensioner is horizontzal...
Does this show that the camchain is worn out as im sure ive seen some vertical ???

What would you recommend I change , its covered 60 thousand miles & otherwise sounds fine after I adjusted the tappets.
No smoke either...

There use to a link on the internet but I'm not sure if it's still there...it was pretty hard to find.

PM me your address  and I'll send you a copy on CD along with the parts manual and a load of other XBR stuff.  ;)

Hi Fuzz,
If you do go for the Rhine Blue metallic paint- the code is PB150M-U  I got some from www.rsbikepaint.co.uk

And the blue wing decals and side panel decals are still available from Honda (if not a little pricey)

Cheers

So.
Latest update.

Brand new DID camchain fitted.

Rocker box off, clutch cover off, Clutch off, oil pump drive & crank r/h gear side off.

Replace 1 x cam follower...
& rebuild.

Sounds really sweet now.

Thanks again for the other parts Simmo....

Will use 1 of the fork legs & one of mine, to make a good set.

I really cant believe how good the engine was inside , for the mileage its covered ( 60,500 )
The clutch side just had the golden stuff that wipes away with a cloth, on the inside of the crankcases, & it sounds GREAT with NO knocks or rattles whatsoever....

What have I missed , since that 1st ride on one of the ORIGINAL press bikes !!!!

My leaking forks have now seemed to have stopped leaking after a few up & downs on the road near the workshop where I work.
Have heard this happen before , as the seals dry out through standing & then rejuvinate themselves with a bit of use ....

Started on the cosmetics now.
Side panels & front mudguard stripped, sanded, primed & sprayed.
Just need the decals adding & 2 pack laquer on top.

THEN the tank & rear panel.
Engine has been sprayed & looks good.

I have used Silver Hook Metallic silver..
Really good stuff & is very similar to Hondas original HIGH metallic silver as used on enclosed chainguards etc...
