I was most impressed with the country and people.

I'd love to go again and see more.

I will put a memo on the forum early next year and see who is intrested. I have to admit I know nothing about the country apart from it has good roads and good scenery but I am sure with help it could be sorted.

The main problem with Norway as a destination is that there is now no direct ferry from the UK. When we went I took the ferry from Newcastle to Christiansand, but Martyn rode from Calais. Riding all the way from Calais is obviously still an option but it makes it less attractive for a short break. We went for two weeks, the first of which it poured with rain. Still worth the effort and very spectacular; eye-wateringly expensive though!

Hi all, Pat & I toured the fjord area of Norway last year on a Guzzi. We sailed from Immingham to Gothenburg (Sweden) with DFDS on a container ship (takes 12 passengers), rode up to Trondheim and then zig zagged down through the fjords stopping in Hostels (meeting some interesting people) on the way. Some of the sights are amazing and the roads quiet (except for Bergen), well worth the trip.
We sailed back from Esbjerg (Denmark) to Harwich covering 3000miles in 3 1/2 weeks.

ps....we went July/August and had next to no rain.

Fjiordland in June absolutley Pisses Down  ::) Still Great though  ;D
Not forgetting the still frozen lakes, several foot of snow alongside the roads in some areas.

We stayed in an assortment of Hytters.
They ranged from the traditional Log Cabin with turf roof,in the middle of nowhere, through to a glorified garden shed in a very tourist area.
All equiped with a heater of some sort, fire place or electric and a basic electric hob.
And of course you can camp virtually anywhere when out in the sticks with just a few basic rules.
Away from the road and a certain distance from farm land....basically 300m.

Or go north where "wild camping" is legal (http://www.mcofs.org.uk/assets/pdfs/wildcamping.pdf http://www.outdooraccess-scotland.com/ ) the scenery is also stunning and the locals speak (more or less) the same language and the prices are pretty much the same as your home... oh and it also pi**es down sometimes  ;)

(and you can always get a decent dram, generally without having to mortgage your soul!  ;D)

You've got a point Smudge. Lots of great places here to visit and I haven't been further north in the UK than Dent.

Picture of the day - cycling

Maybe 'The Thumper Club' needs another section on the forum for those with bicycles. :P
There exists a set of people who believe 2>4

Steve, would you be able to split the section of this thread referring to the proposed cycling trip and put it into it's own thread?
Thanks mate... ;)
