Xtreme camping
« on: March 15, 2010, 09:03:41 PM »
One of my mates had organised an Xtreme camping meet as he wanted to try out his bike and new gear. He has an AT and is spending a few weeks going down to Timbukto later this year. He organised a site and a group of us agreed to go, then his shift pattern changed and he had to work but we still went :-

The Xtreme Five set off in Xtremely good weather and had a lovely ride over to the site

Nick decided to go Xtra Xtreme and take his own water supply!

Dazco had a little altercation with his electrics, but nothing that a little Xtreme fiddling and fixing couldn't cope with and of course my little box of spare connectors!.

Got to the site on Xtremely warm sunshine and proceeded to cobble together a shelter as the wind was quite cold.

We had some excellent food cooked over the charcoal burners and kept quite warm sheltereed under the Tarp and Poncho's lashed together. Despite several attempts to get a fire going and some sweat cutting and sawing wood the fire was abandoned and just seemed to smoke all evening until it had enough heat and then decided to burst into life.

Considering we were now well into this Xtreme camping I was quite amazed when Debs produced some cake and custard!

We had a very pleasant evening and finished off a bottle of JD shortly followed by Debs bottle of Grouse. Well I slept well!

Nick had come well prepared for the Xtreme conditions and proceeded to make us all jealous with his furry little friend!

A good night was had by all, and even Dazco slept so well that he didn't even have time to get undressed and into his sleeping bag before he was asleep!

Quote "I woke up and could only find one boot, then I wiggled my toes and realised that I still had the other one on!"

Now that means that he must have also still had his bike pants on as I cannot get mine off with out the boots first!

As promised Debs a pic of the Xtreme Five!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A great meet and some excellent company, bring on the next.

Looks good. Where at did you camp and was it a "Wild Camp" or a recognised Legal to camp sort of place?

Yeah, definately legal as we found out. £3 per night and no facilities although there was a bin for rubbish and you can have an open fire. I'll dig out the info as it's on another site.
Just through Keld, North of Hawes.

Just checked back with the GS site to find out where it was. I hope this helps.

http://www.swaledalecamping.co.uk/

I took 5kg of charcoal for my small burner which kept two of them going all evening, there is very little dead firewood to use there.
Very nice spot just remember to take your own booze, you can get spring water from the farmhouse, Oh and don't try to get across the stream to have a poke in the little cave on the other side, 'cos the water goes over your boots! :o
