XBR 600CC Covertion
« on: July 27, 2006, 07:06:09 PM »
I know that we are the middle of a heatwave BUT I've been thinking about a possible winter project.

Since reading the White Brothers GB500, 600cc convertion article, I've quite fancied try something along those lines on my XBR.

I wasn't planning on anything too silly as I'm more interested in mid range than ballistic top speed. The current idea is to use an XL600 barrel/Piston, possibly uprated carb/filter and getting the inlets cleaned up a bit.

Has anyone out there done this? if so any advice would be welcome and at the end of the day is it worth doing?

Not yet, but thats the plan for Abigail. I think I'm a few years away yet, so if you should do it first please keep lots of notes. I will be asking questions :-)

Yeah, I know what you mean Pat,....I didn't say WHICH winter!  But seriously I think I know where I can get a decent XL600 barrel and Mainjet do a ready jetted mikuni flatslide kit (Shame it's 270 euros!), but if its worth the effort I can at least start to get the bits together. ;-)

It's probably best if I pass this query on to one of the guys on the XBR forum, he's done all these mods.

I'll mail him to see if wants to chat to you.

If you can get a complete NX650 engine, that's easier. Plus you can get a Wiseco piston for them ;-)

XBR 500 92 x 75 bore x stroke
XL600 R 100 x 75 bore x stroke
XL600 RM / LM 97 x 80 bore x stroke

So make sure you buy a XL 600 R barrel ..
This bolts straight on ..
High compression pistons are available ..

The only problem I can remember is the little end is smaller on the 600 .
Just get a small bush turned up . or is the other way /?/ to much sun ?
It's a few years since I looked in to doing one !

Please feel free to ignore this post as I know jack sh#t
