We did about 5 miles of Green lane in about 4 hours! In our group were two Transalps on road orientated tyres and they really struggled. As usual I was at the back and these two also endeed up there, so myself and another on a KTM640, both on agressive tyres spend hours picking up these two TA's, they must have gone down at least a dozen times each, I was quite warm as you can imagine! To make thingsd worse neither had been off road before!
We managed about a third of the track and eventhe big GS BMW's that were with us were struggling so the leader decided to cut the route short as the next bit was evidently even worse and downhill steps!
The deviation was nearly the end of us as we met a downhill section probably a couple af hundred feet long downhill and sheet ice. My brother on his DRZ400 romped down but we had to manhandle the BM's down (nearly 1/4 tonne!) and a little serrow and a Suzi Bajawhich left the KTM, two Ten's and the two TA's and the leaders bike a TTR600. I decided that a ride off the track down a 10 foot drop and then a little off piste was safer than crashing on ice so we slid the bike on it's side down the drop and then I just rode in soft virgin snow aroud the bad bit of road no problem. The other bikes followed but my bro took Crusty's bike down and I took one of the TA's down, someone else took the other TA. That little fiasco took over an hour and when we regrouped I realised that there was another section of ice a bit further down, it's always wise to have a little walk and check out the route. This time we managed with manhandling and other more competant riders changing bikes.
We eventually got back to tarmack and set off for Whitby where we had the most welcome fish and chips, then back to Cropton for more of the previous evenings frivolity. In the end we only lost one handguard, no broken bikes or bones and lots of smiles and I don't doubt this morning a lot of bruises and aching joints but a bloody good weekend was had by all.
