A new family member

.... Pip!

Her full name is Pippa and she is a four and a half year old ex-race dog. We collected her from the Dogs Trust yesterday, and [so far] she is settling in really well.

Absolutely chuffed as I've wanted a dog for years but with Mrs Squirrel being a bit wary, haven't been able to have one. I think Pip is winning her over slowly as she is a very soppy pooch and hasn't eated any shoes yet.

Now all I have to do is figure out how to get her on the bike!

We too have a rescue dog.A deaf Ex-Rabbiting Jack Russell.
He is mad as a box of frogs...totally bonkers.

We also have a rescue dog - looking after the bits of bike in one of te photos...

Used to carry my longdog (3/4 greyhound, 1/4 deerhound) in a rucksack with his head poped out - he loved it and would rest his head over the top of my helmet as I was riding.

A little Pippa update for those who are interested.

She is settling in nicely and slept through the night for the first time last night (woke us up at 5:30). A very, very placid dog who loves people and other animals and is getting dafter by the day.

We have learned to move the food recycling bin and not trust the locking handle after last night too. The lure of chicken left overs was motivation enough for Pip to figure out a way past the catch and bag a freebie snack (this on the day that she also figured out where her 'Good girl' treats were too).

Today is the day she will be allowed off the lead and left to run free for the first time. I don't know who's more excited, me or her.

That's brilliant, really glad to hear she's settling in 

Be glad you didn't get a Boxer. My mum and dad's second one was insane even by boxer standards. The first time he was left alone in the kitchen he ripped open the Hoover. There were dusty footprints at a height of three feet, wall of death style, above any surface he could have possibly run on. The second day he opened all the cupboards and ate a pack of washing powder and two pounds of raw carrots. Even bubbles issuing from the you know where didn't seem to worry him! The third one was more sensible. She went in the oven, dragged out the contents without burning herself and ate the beef that was cooking for our tea. She left the liver and bits we were doing for her and believe me having tucked in to that meal of liver and onions I can see why

Well the first off lead run was great. Jees greyhounds can move! Wish my bike went that well. She absolutely loved it and chased her tennis ball right through the biggest muddy puddle I ever saw. Only downer on a really fun morning was the daft mutt jumped off a 5' bank into a fast flowing river! I had to get in to rescue her when she swam to the bank and nearly got dragged under. got her out in the end (both man and beast soaked and plastered in mud), but then she shook herself off and nearly jumped in again! Mad.

Sounds like you're both doing well Pat.I know how you feel. Our latest addition, Monty is coming on just fine, now that we've managed to reduce his need to eat the house and contents.

By the way, your bike seems to be going just fine after watching you dismiss the 50 limit on the M4 yesterday morning

Congrats on the new dog Pat. Lovely aint they.....I love mine and have just had a lovely week away with her. I bet the river interlude was a "heart in the mouth" moment though.
