Winter camping
« on: November 21, 2006, 09:32:29 AM »
Gents,

Would anyone happen to know if the campsite at Dent is still open or of any other place in Northern England where I could have a night away to test by winter camping gear?

The camping club BTW have proven to be a total waste of space. They now insist you you stay 2 nights and have electric! Might as well stay in a hotel for what they want to provide and charge you for.

Thanks

Andy

You can try it out in our York back yard if you like, although you'll have to hold the guy ropes down with bricks.

Andy,

You could always come north of the border (just) to Newcastleton this weekend and join the mob at the other love in my life at:

check out the Golden lion Hotel @ Horton in Ribblesdale. www.goldenlionhotel.co.uk  Free camping and good beer ,at least it was 3 years ago. As far as I know they will still let you camp in their garden, a phone call will give you the answer

Aye AndyM,

That site that 'bmhor' has stuck up for you confirms my experience when working in the area and looking for digs. So long as your prepared to 'muck in', people will fit you in and look after you. You might also try the Bailey Mill on the English sideof the Border, on the Kershope to Newcastleton road. It use to be run by Ian and Pamela Copeland, but I'm not sure if they or the business are still there.

This weekends weather looks a bit ferocious and knowing the forest roads etc. it should be a good bash for the hillrally boys. Some of those 1 off V8 Rover powered 4X4 specials make WRC look like F1, TAME. Especially when flying off the odd crag or ploughing through a bit of deep peat. The hillrally event round the Ochill and Perthshire is also good for a view and maybe a bit warmer!

Have a safe weekend.

Cheers, Bill

I hope to get up to Dent again by the end of the year and expect to get down to South Wales this weekend to meet up with GC and crew.

Give Wendy and Mick a call on 015396 25277 and give them my regards, I'm sure that they would not turn you away as I went there with Rick and Neal about this time last year.

PS I've got the DR front wheel out for re-spoking in SS and as of this evening not back so I'm a bit apprehensive about going down on the SRX as the weather looks inclement to say the least and I want to run my heated jacket and my new GPS (Tom Tom Rider!)
I've ordered a new set up to mount the gps on the SRX but it's not here yet but will still attempt the Wales gig.

As Beeman once reminded me we are a riders club! (weather what weather?)

SteveD
If I'm not working I'll be away on my bike camping!

Thanks Guys,

I was thinking of next week end (2nd-3rd). I'll give Dent a ring as that was the sort of distance that's look good for a Friday afternoon-Saturday dinner time test run. I too am looking for something that will test the MZ's ability to lug camping gear, run the electrical gadgets etc. without the risk of a trip on the RAC wagon. BTW, I've also found a national trust site in the lake district but that's about 30 miles further "up".

Jealous jealous jealous... we've got visitors this weekend so no playtime :-(

How's the MT going Bob? Oh and talking of camping... we need to have a chat sometime to see if you are aware of any suitable campsites for the Scottish run I'm organising 22-25 June next year! I trust I can convince you to take the Armstrong for a bimble and maybe even a pint or two...?
(See the events section for a little more info)
