XBR Engine technical question

The following may appear rather confusing but should make sense to anyone who has delved into an XBR engine.
My workshop manual is a photocopy and the photographs are not too clear. Page 8-17 calls for the starter idler gear to be installed "with the higher boss facing out." The question is which is the 'higher boss'. Is it the recessed machined side of the gear where the central boss is higher than the immediately surrounding metal or the other unmachined side where the boss is level with the gear face but higher if viewed from the side. It is important as it affects the position of the idler gear retaining spigot when the clutch casing is fitted.

I'm not sure without seeing the part, but is this picture any clearer? It's from the GB500 manual but should be the same.

Thanks for the info Steve. The GB pictures are much clearer but unfortunately the idler gear on my XBR, and a spare I have, are different in that the lightening holes are oval shaped, not round, and there is no 'outer' mark to be seen. There is still not enough detail to establish which way it fits but as the manual is much clearer than mine I will use it as a back-up so thanks again.
