Dent 16, 17, 18 Oct
« on: August 10, 2009, 07:25:48 PM »
As usual there has been some interest in an end (ish) of year meeting at Dent again this year. The dates are 16th - 18th October. This co-incides with the Cossack owners' club meet but is of course open to invites from other individuals. I will be putting up the club marquee as usual and will get the old 'Jiko' out as well as supplying tea and coffee. I will be posting this on the XT660 site and some of the guys from the Horizons site are interested. Great opportunity to meet up with likeminded bikers, usually a great atmosphere and in the past, weather not too bad.
We usually get quite an eclectic mix of bikes and no programme is planned as this is not a club meet just a camping weekend with other bikers. Induviduals may want to arrange their own activities but none will be club arranged. ;D
Lets hope for an Indian summer!

Is this the Dent up in North Yorkshire?
(Highest railway station in the U.K. for useless information service!)

Iff'n it's there I will put a provisional YES as long as I have the right bike at the time. Good chance to get to know a few of you.  YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

Yes Dogbad, Dent is near to Sedburgh and easily accesible from Devils Bridge. We usually gert a good reception there, the site is very biker friendly as are the locals and local pubs. ;D

Las time I camped in Dent was on the Thorm Nomad touring Bicycle in December 2002, in the SNOW!

Thorn Nomad? It was bloody Thorn expedition tourers that led me to build a drop handlebar tourer using a Marin Team frameset. I lusted after a Thorn for years but couldn't afford one.

I met a bloke at a campsite in mid Wales who lived there all summer. He builds bicycle wheels for Thorn under a plastic gazebo next to his caravan. Apparently once a week he delivers the built wheels and collects all the bits and pieces for the next batch. When I met him he was building a wheel with a Rohloff 14 speed internal gear hub (like a Sturmey Archer 3-speed, but about ten trillion times the cost).

I just missed a Rohloff equipped Thorn XTC on the bay. Good Job I didn't win it though as I would have had to borrow the money to pay for it!
All the Bikes and Trikes I have now are recumbents. Much more comfortable and I have the "AeroBelly" for cheating the Headwinds :P

Sorry SteveD, I'm putting my eggs in the November meet-up basket. Time and funds won't stretch to two outings in two months. Have a larf though.

Change of plan! Double booked for the November meet so I'll be strapping the tent to the bike and heading for Dent instead. Save me a pitch and I'll see you on the Friday night.
