Look who's been a clever boy then :-)
« on: November 07, 2006, 07:40:00 PM »
Been playing around with lectricks and put a direct link to the battery on Dolly. Protected it with an in-line fuse and found a nice neat little spot for it :-)

Can you see it??? No, well here's a close up

1/4" phono jack stuffed in the airbox. Now I can run all manner of 12v thingies off my bike. Don't know what exactly, but something will come to me I'm sure.
Oh, and i can charge the battery too, without all the faffing about with sidepanels :-)

Neat,
but I'd suggest giving it a regular coating of petroleum jelly or similar...
Or you might want to have a look at somewhere that sells marine electricals and see if they do a "marinised" version, eg water/corrosion resistant/proof.

Just a thought (or is it the voice of bitter experience....!)

Look for the gold plated jobbies......!

Theyre pretty resistant to corrosion.

Aye Pat,

Just make sure the battery fluids are present and correct before and after charging! Optimates are wonderful, BUT!

Battery is a jel type, so no fluids there, and so far I've not had the need to charge as she's used daily, but handy to have for when I forget to turn the petrol on (again!) and run her flat on the starter (Doh!)

Cheers for the anti corrosion tips. Another advantage of its position is when riding my leg covers it from the worst of the weather, and when parked, it points down hill. I've also put the contacts at the top and fitted heatshrink over all the joints.

I've got to say (as a completely mechanically-challenged sort) how refreshing it is to see you doing all this stuff Pat, considering you too were nervous at first (it seems such a long time ago now). If, and when, I finally get a garage sorted I might just try doing odd jobs like this. Until then.....more power to your elbow matey.

I've lined up a posse of little boys to poke no end of interesting stuff in there, from frog spawn to dog ends...

Looks a neat idea and a tidy job, just remember not to plug the headphones in...

I didn't know you could run love-eggs off a 12V supply...

Must make the ride to work more interesting :-)

Problems with it as it see it Pat are as follows
1. At best you will only be able to dry your fringe as your lid will cover everything else.
2. the plug is going to stick in your leg or your leg is going to keep knocking it out so I would avoid using a GPS as they are not keen on power outages

Pat is off now drilling a 25mm hole through his leg to accomodate plug and wire.
