Annual Rally date and venue
« on: February 05, 2009, 11:35:26 PM »
We are booked in at the Uttoxeter Classic Bike Show on the weekend of 4th-5th July.

What this means is that you pay the organisers £14 and you can camp for two nights (in an assigned Thumper Club area) and have full access to the show (70 bike clubs will be there displaying bikes). There will be trade stands on site to satisfy your buying urges. There are bars on site and this year the organisers have forced them to reduce their prices from £3.20 a pint to £2.60 (after complaints made at last years show).

There will be a live band on both nights.

In short it will be exactly like attending a 'normal' annual rally, but with a bloody great bike show attached.

From what I understand, once you have paid you are free to come and go from the site, so ride-outs and supermarket beer dashes should be unaffected by the location.

Cheers
GC

Good choice #1, I went to the show in '07 and was well impressed, should be a good weekend and the Peak District is nearby for a rideout.

Bah, I've been reminded by my beloved that she will be in Bulgaria when this meet goes ahead. As I won't put my little doggy in kennels ever again I will have to give this event a miss. It's a shame, really it is, I really enjoy our July meets.

I was thinking about coming in the car Dave, but it kinda defeats the object I feel. And I think all the noise and general kerfuffle would stress the old girl too much. A couple of hours down the pub with her is fine - a whole weekend of bikes and booze (while excellent for me) isn't such a good idea.
(I'm secretly hoping for a UK Air Traffic Controllers strike in July, but don't tell my Dawn that  ;D )

Hi Bill, Last year, Pat & I were in the French Alps and stopped off at a logging competition to take in some local flavour. As we were looking around the other bikes parked up, there was a French bloke and his wife climbing onto an HD Roadking......she passed him a little dog and he placed it into a open topped circular tank bag and attached a harness and lead from the 'bars to the dog......fired up and rode off into the distance....amazing.

Used to carry my lurcher (3/4 deerhound  1/4 greyhound) in a rucksack on my back, was OK unless I dropped below 30 when he would start really whining on.  You could tell from the shadows that he was resting his head along the top of my crash hat, or lolling over my shoulder - just what you need on a lifesaver - a slobbery wet lurcher tongue over the goggles...

Also was something to talk to when the Triton broke down and we were awaiting rescue / tool kit etc.

For the pedants - I know he was really a long dog, not a lurcher, being a cross between two sight hounds not a sight hound and a working dog, but I prefer the name lurcher.

Mind his name was elfa - as in el fa lurcher

Tried to catch a transit van and came of second best  :(

Would that be the Irish duo threesome then? See all four of you there.
