Big end Roller or Floater?
« on: January 27, 2009, 09:19:27 AM »
As some of you are aware I am having my Bullet's motor rebuilt. The Bigend  stock item is a floating bush although you can now get roller/ needle bearings. So I was wondering what the consensus might be, allowing for, shall we say, normal oil delivery and the usual user incompetence, which is the better option? Discuss

Aye Steffan,

What do you want to use the bike for?

Will you rev it or thump it?

What else are you changing/upgrading in the motor or on the bike?

How deep are your pockets?

Can't even start to discuss until we know some background. Without the background information, the 4th question is the only relevant question! :)

Happy pondering, Bill.

Get a roller bearing big end it will last much longer than a bush in my opinion, for what its worth.

with standard compression and  regular oil changes the bush lasts well, especially now oil is a lot better than it was in 1948 when the bullet was first made.

even in the fifties with crappy oil, bullets were known as good reliable workhorses.

however, since you've got it apart i'd go for the roller. with 6.5:1 compression it will last forever, and it also means you could raise the compression in the future without worrying.
