XBR 500 handlebar controls look a bit clumsy, I'm looking to lose the mirrors but also a slimmer type of control gear- does anyone know if there is an alternative I can fit instead?

Dont know about the switchgear Dave but I would recomend junking the mirrors and fitting Oberon small bar end mirrors. Fitted em to my XBR and they look fab. Take a bit of fiddling about to set up for a reasonable rear view but with allen keys in pocket a nice quiet car park and a bit of patience they can be set up to work well.

I fitted the matt black ones but one word of warning, the bar end counter weights are an absoloute b*****d to get off.

See http://www.oberon-performance.co.uk/acatalog/Bar_End_Mirrors.html

Regards,

Andy

Got any photos Andy? What did you do with the remaining mirror holes?

Yes Dave, I do have photos but not on this computer. I will post some tomorrow.

I screwed a couple of anodised black cap head socket screws into the threaded holes.

Andy

Aye Dave,

A blob of silicone and a plastic cap for a x-head wood screw from these bits of kit furniture works well :) Just a bl**dy cheap skate, I know! ::)

My regards, Bill.

The Dominator switchgear and an NC30 type of throttle body look much sexier. Take care of the choke lever by using the Dominator clutch lever clamp (and a domi cable). There's a bit of wiring to be amended, but nothing major. All easily available on Ebay.
