Prospective meet in August
« on: March 16, 2008, 09:41:53 PM »
Some TC members have been regular visitors to the Cossack club's nice little rally at the Three Magpies pub near Devizes. Unfortunately due to the organiser's departure to foreign shores the rally isn't happening this year.

I got to thinking, why not have a TC meet at the pub in late August? The pub has a superb camping field with good toilets, etc. There are lots of interesting places to visit nearby on a rideout, including scenic Bradford on Avon and a nice motor musuem in Calne.

For more details of the venue, click HERE

The only downside is that the pub is a bit expensive, £3.00 a pint IIRC.

Anyone game?

Cheers
GC

Not sure if I can make it yet. It's a nice area, I've been there a few times with the COC.  Avebury and Silbury Hill are just up the road as well as the West Kennet Long Barrow. Also the Lock ladder at Calne which I think is the longest in the UK.

I'm sure I can get the time off to make this event and it's nice ride from my home too. Good idea GC.

Hmm, not too far from me as well. I will check holidays and seek permission from all quarters and see if I can come too! I want to come, especially now my beast is running again.

I can only agree with GC, Molly and I too have enjoyed the Cossack Owners Club Rally at the Three Magpies in the past and we will be camping there on the 23rd August, staying until AM Monday 25th August.

It is, as has been said before, a good campsite with Toilets, Showers and Water etc. The Pub does a first class meal if that is what you want and a good range of beers. The drawback is that the nearest village shop for those bits that you forgot is a good 3 to 4 miles away at least. We will attempt to carry all that we need to the site initially, at least the alcohol supply is catered for, so leaving room for more milk, bread, sausages etc. It would be good to see other Thumper Club people there during this period.

I know the Stalwart generally heads in the same direction but turns North at motorway junction 17 to Kemble Airfield, not South to Melksham and on to Sell's Green, perhaps this year he too will head South.

Further to my last posting, I just rang the Three Magpies to confirm our booking and they are full up, we should have confirmed earlier, no room at all at the inn. The only way to get on there is via a late cancellation so I guess a lot of speculation/comment on this thread has been in vain. Anyone got any other ideas?

John, if you are at a loose end over the weekend of 5th-7th September, Colin Hilliard, Terry Lee and myself are camping down at the Plume of Feathers in Princetown on Dartmoor. It's a BMW GS event and is really good, you can chill or join the ride outs - whatever you fancy really. Turn up and I'll buy you a pint of Jail Ale (and a fruit juice for the lady  ::) ) (HMP Dartmoor is about 300 yards away)  Of course, all other Thumpeteers are very welcome.

Ahh Princetown and the Plume of Feathers - memories - Used to have a fine crop of magic mushrooms in the back garden of one of the pubs, think it was the PoF - all gets a bit hazy...

Colin, thanks for the invite, I have talked with OnePot and 002 and there are some stirrings of interest there, Mol and I will definitely be coming down to Princetown, 002 will be on his way back from a German sidecar Rally and rather fancies turning up on his GS outfit at a GS rally so is working on the idea, GC has work problems, but wants to come to Princetown and is trying to make it work, so God Willing see you behind the Plume of Feathers on the 5th.
