Dolly's got bloody flu now!
« on: January 16, 2008, 08:48:50 PM »
Just as I thought I was getting to the bottom of her cold, things progressed to Man-flu!!!

Completely cut out in the fast lane of the M4. 4.5K revs to nowt in a split second. Dropped a couple of gears and bumped her but she took an age to fire again and even then she was coughing and spluttering for quite a while.
A minute later all was well, not a hitch, smooth as you like and sounding sweet! And so it remained for the rest of the journey ???

When I got home I gave GC a bell for some clues and he suggested a nosey around the coil where I did discover a split in the insulation of the live feed in (worn though). I've vasellined it and covered it with some heat shrink as well as vasellining all connections and checking the plug (which seemed fine)

Here's hoping I've found the cure. Do you reckon that could be it?? Anything else to look at??

BTW GC I took a look at the filler cap breather and all was clear ;D

Isn't it funny how bikes never ever break down as you are approaching somewhere interesting like 'Mrs Goodbodys school for naughty girls'. Oh no, you never cough and splutter to a halt outside a pub... or a cafe. No, it's always somewhere horrible and dangerous like the fast lane of the M4.

Anyway, I hope the problem goes away, it will be making you a nervous bunny until it's proved to be cured.

Two runs to work and back with no sign of a stutter and in some bloody awful conditions too. Think I might of cured it (said whilst holding on to a great lump of wood)

Good to hear you have it sorted, oddly co-incidental after our conversation the other week. You must have been earshot of the garage ;-)

Not wrong there SteveH ;D (to those wondering what we're talking about, I was considering selling Dolly)

Despite her recent grumblings, I've come to the conclusion that she is great at this motorway commuting lark, especially with the road works on the M4. Sitting up high and proud is sooo good for filtering ;D
