My Weekend Report
« on: September 17, 2006, 06:11:31 PM »
Went from home friday evening to Cleobury Mortimer to attend a Classic Motorcycle show run by Jim Reynolds only 10 miles from home.Got there and after an evening in the pub slept the night in one of the school halls.Got The Norton on display with some friends from the Shropshire Branch of the Norton Owners Club. Among the Nortons was a Featherbed framed Inter with a 1935 engine upon which was a barrel and Manx twin cam head which had been made in his home workshop by another member that is he cast and then did all the machining to produce the barrel and head.Impessive or what.

Lots of people came on the Saturday in the evening we went out for an Indian and more beer followed by another nights sleep. On Sunday even more people came but the best suprise for me was in the afternoon was when a school friend came by chance to the show his name Ian Taylor who I had not seen for over 30 years. In my report for 1969 on the Dragon Rally this is the person I went with .What a pleasant suprise. Contact has been made and we hope both to go to the 2007 Dragon Rally.

A bit late to report this but next weekend I,m going to the Norton Day held at Whittington Castle near Oswestry if any body is able you will be welcome to attend

No weekend fun for me, spent saturday on a house painting job and today looking after the kids (which was actually fun).

Saturday evening was spent at Rob's place around the corner, being plied with stupidly strong porters and ales. At around 1.15am we decided to ring Jethro up to see how the Popham sidecar rally was progressing... we obviously woke him up and he was very tired and emotional. Oh how we laughed. He didn't :-)

Cheers

Julian and myself attended the sidecar meet at Popham Airfield.
Most enjoyable too.
Met,drank and chatted to a large selection of Sidecarists.Watched vintage aircraft take off, land and fly past.
A lot of diverse units turned up even a Brough Superior, the model with a modified Austin Seven engine and twin rear wheels.Plus a host of other interesting things including a modern Gilera Saturno.

Well the phone call was at 12.30 and I was very drunk, having enjoyed some farm house cider....Hic !
