XBR and Ikuzawa rear wheel stuff
« on: October 15, 2007, 08:06:09 PM »
I had a blinding Ebay week last week so decided to try and find a Honda Dominator rear wheel for cheap on ebay.

I won a wheel with a damaged rim for £20. The rim isn't needed as I want to fit an 18" rim in its place.

The plan is to see what is needed to graft the wheel into an XBR (as Pat is doing) so that I can pass on the details to club members. However, the wheel's final destination will be in my Harris/Ikuzawa which I have decided to build with XBR forks and spoked wheels.

I could fit an XBR drum-braked rear wheel, but I have a master cylinder in place and a very tasty mini Brembo caliper. Either way it would mean work and I'd rather go the disk brake route, especially after trial fitting Pat's wheel.

Anyway, with the XBR conversion in mind, does anyone have a knackered Dominator rear disk that I can fit for measuring? A good disk would be better though  ;)
Also, I could do with a Dominator caliper too (although not the caliper hanger).
I would need these items for a couple of weeks to allow me to make measurements and get drawings made (for a new caliper hanger, spacers, etc.)

My other XBR spoked wheel conversion option is a 400/4 rear wheel. I have offered up a hub and it looks to be a straightforward matter of making new spacers and having the rim replaced or moved with a different offset. The brake drum is almost the same as the XBR item and the torque arm just bolts straight to it.

One of my jobs this winter is to make a jig for an XBR swing arm so that I can offer up these hubs and accurately measure up for spacers, etc.

Cheers

Sounds like a good one mate!

The icky will look the buisiness with wire wheels.

Sorry, no Honda bits, but I have a Yam TDR rear caliper (in gold) if its any use to you??  Its pretty similar to the SRX rear, tho I think, not identical.

Cheers for now, keep good boy, you've been deathly silent of late

Thanks for the offer, but the aim is to see what would be needed to do a disk brake/spoked wheel conversion for the XBR and I think that using all NX650 parts simplifies the process. I don't intend fitting the converted wheel to one of my XBRs, it's just an exercise to help out all the XBR owners who keep asking me for spoked XBR wheels.

I have a caliper for Ickie... it's lovely ;)

Silent of late because I've been in a bad place financially and I've been working a lot to earn wonga for the taxman (who issued a distraint order on me).

BTW, I will be bringing some 200mm diameter TC logo stickers to Stafford for your race bike.

Cheers

Graham - I know it is a slog up the motorway, but we do have plenty of work here for you if you run short.  Should help with the taxman.
