Oils for Bullets - calling Jethro and Martin

OK having had the 15/40 in there for a while it is time to change it again after the helicoil business so, I am thinking Chatsworths or Halfords Classic 20/50. Anyone with a Bullet got any suggestions?

I use a resonable quality 20/50 in my Norton Big4 and have had no problems, I do have a proper filter on the bike I did once try a 50 grade oil it poured out of ever joint.

i've run my bullet on halfords classic 20/50 for the last two years. although it doesn't do all that many miles, it gets used a lot harder than most (and i do mean a lot!). it does thin out and start clattering when it gets overly hot, but i think any oil would do the same.

the oil is designed for cars, but being pre-unit (clutch has its own oil) and about as revvy as a canal boat there's no problems here.

absoultely no complaints with halfords classic, cheap and easily available.

BTW there's a bloke on ebay selling 6 oil filters for £14. that's cheap even by the standards of thumper club people!

Poking around looking for some 20/50 t'other day, came across Tesco's own brand in their petrol station. If I remember right (fat chance!) about £7-70 for 4litres. Have also seen Halfords 'Classic' 20/50 but have not used either. Straight Morris or Silkolene 40 in the Duke and 10/40 in the Japs.

My old 18S used to get either Castrol GTX or Duckhams 20/50 and was doing ~1000 miles a month commuting and up and down the M1 - M6 between J10 and Penrith. Never had lubrication problems with either.

Thanks for the tip, I had intended lashing out but my local dealer in Carmarthen is quoting 2.50 so I am more than happy to take them off his hands for him

when looking at supermarket oils, check that they are not 'reclaimed oil'. it'll say so in the small print on the back.

although i have no idea of the processes it goes through before being re-sold, i just don't like the idea.
