Another Thumper
« on: September 04, 2024, 03:23:19 PM »
Just bought this one to provide company to my cb250rsa
Delivery next week hopefully.
It’s got factory fitted options of screen, centre stand, and an extra padded seat. (not pictured)
Bike will also have new tyres fitted.
CJP Motorcycles of Blandford, who appear to have a range of very nice bikes.

I viewed one last week at a Honda dealer and was extremely disappointed with the bike and the attitude of the dealership. My dealings with CJP, so far, have been simple and straightforward. I am optimistic that the bike will meet expectations too.

Hi Kevin (and Pete 😉)
It’s a model I was unaware of to be honest. Generally lost touch with most of the modern, new models out there. Certainly looks nice, look forward to hearing how you get on with it. Keep us all posted 👍

Morning Mike,
It replaced the Honda 250 twins and ran from 2004-2012.
I bought one for my son when he passed his test some 12 years ago. Nice simple bike, decent performance and a good looker in my opinion. Unsurprisingly, very lightweight which is very nice at this stage of my maturity! 😏😏

Good luck with the new thumper Kev. Maybe we should meet up to compare notes / bikes? Martin

Lovely bike, I nearly bought one, but the dealer (not CJP) messed me about and I got my money back. I bet it is a cracking ride.

Hope so Ian. I rode one briefly last week and liked it. I recall your adventure with a dealer messing you about. I have to say that CJP, from whom I bought it, have been excellent to date. It will be with me within 7 days apparently. The service and PDI completed today.
Cheers,
Kev

Nice looking bike, the engine is very similar to the GB250 by the looks of it

I can't remember seeing this model when they were new, but since nearly buying one I have been interested in them. Being a Honda I would expect reliability and a quality build so I will be interested to know how you get on with the new thumper Kev.

Morning Ian.
As I mentioned, I did buy one for my son some years ago. I rode it a couple times. It was, as I recall, easy to ride and extremely well put together. Typically Honda you might say. The 22bhp ‘power delivery’ was softer than my Cb250rs, but being equally lightweight it soon got up to a very comfortable 60mph. I do recall that it took time to warm up and needed the choke for a little time.
It’s a very lightweight bike as you know and extremely easy to push around the garage. I did note that the bike was not fitted as standard with a centre stand. Service parts are a readily available, but the air filter is pricey at £46, unlike the oily sponge on my 250rs!
My riding is purely for pleasure nowadays and I do choose to avoid bad weather. Nevertheless, it’s an easy bike to clean and self maintain in my view. (I’m no expert mechanic like many on this site).
Anyway, I’m hoping for delivery towards the end of the week. Fingers crossed it arrives and is as good as I anticipate.
Kev

PS. Here’s a balanced review from a ‘different source’ from the mainstream

Thanks Kev

That is a lovely balanced review and makes a change from 'Can I bike with only 20bhp really be exciting?' type of nonsense. To be honest I have always preferred smaller, lighter bikes and have usually found ways of reducing weight on any bike I've owned, except my 1984 R80 BMW which got heavier as I added more stainless steel fittings! Seriously one of my previous favourite bikes was a CZ 250 single enduro bike that I built out of bits and I just love light weight bikes that won't get me into trouble.

For 45 years I have been biking with my mate who has had a series of ever bigger, engined Harleys and some very fast BMWs and although I am aware that he slows down for me, I also think he enjoys the less rushed pace and not having to go flat out everywhere. Obviously not everyone wants a smaller engine, but for those of us who do thank goodness for bikes like the CBF250.

Yes, cracking little article to read Kevin. As Ian says, what a joy to read something that isn’t all about horsepower figures etc etc. Look forward to hearing about your first impressions of it once you’ve taken delivery and been out for your maiden spin 👍
Cheers, Michael
