Back on the road
« on: January 05, 2024, 05:49:27 PM »
I'm back on the road today after latest operation on my hands. Just a 30 mile round trip to Warwick for a trawl round the charity shops and a coffee, but it was great to be back behind bars!

Flipping heck Pete that is a serious wound! I'd be telling people I got it fighting a crazed bear which was trying to steal a baby.

By the way a bit of bad news; that isn't an Enfield Meteor in the pic. Someone has stolen your new one and replaced it!

Hope recovery is swift.

Makes me feel very 'umble....

Good to hear it's working though. I'm still suffering from the effects of the shingles and think I have the neuralgia you mentioned. Trying to get a GP appointment which is harder than finding parts for a 1929 Spagforth Whippet.

Aye Pete,

Pleased to read that the op. has been sucessful and that you are back behind bars. I had a foolish slip with a Stanley knife t'other day across the ball of my thumb!

May I ask? Is that surgery due to the Viking genetics, or other wear and tear?

Minus 2°C here today and the whole place off the trunk road is glacial. We don't have the flooding that you have at present, but there are still field drains running hard.

Good health, Bill

Aye Ian,

Very sorry to read that the shingles is lingering and leaving you with neuralgia. I hope that it heals through time.

As for the GP appointment, the system is broke and it is very easy to get onto the hamster wheel of telephone receptionist, nurse, ad nauseum! My wife was caught in this cycle and it wasn't until we went and pointed out to the "Practise Manager" that their "safe system" had a "fail loop" in it, rather than a "fail safe loop" that we had any positive movement and managed to obtain a GP telephone consultation and explain the problem. So far things have improved, but whether the "system" has been modified, we have yet to test the system.

All the best for 2024, Bill

That looks nasty Pete. Glad to hear your hand is on the mend, forgive me but did I miss the post as to how and why you needed hand surgery?.... been away over the Christmas period so just catching up on the TC site. Anyway hopefully your recovery continues well and as the days get longer hopefully your rides will too. Best of luck with it 👍
Cheers, Michael

Thanks for the good wishes everybody. I have to say, the NHS really came up trumps with my hand this time. From initial consultation at the Royal Orthopaedic to the operation was about 6 weeks. I guess because I'm almost permanently on their books with my hands, that cut out that involved with being referred by my GP.

Sorry to hear about your ongoing problems with shingles Ian. It shouldn't be this way I know, but if you're not getting good service from your GP, I think you have to make a nuisance of yourself...
