I can't quite work out which tank I'm looking at Matt. I must have a look in the projects section as Michael says. £30 sounds reasonable although maybe more work that I want, and will need to wait till I get the XBR anyway.

There are a lot of tanks in bare metal for £50 or so on ebay but again I need the dimensions. Also lots of cheap seats.

Didn't somebody used to do XBR specific handlebar risers, or am I dreaming that? At any event, a friend in the KNMCC had an XBR, and one of the more talented metal bashers in the club made him some risers out of billet aluminium. I can't remember the details unfortunately, but could probably find out if it's any help?

Yes, there's a replacement top yoke available from Germany but eye-watering prices. The trouble is the XBR's top yoke is reduced section in the middle otherwise I could just drill some holes and put ordinary bar clamps on.

My XBR came to me with drilled yoke and bar risers. I can report no cracks in my 6 years of ownership, despite steep, local downhill sweepers and a pukka hairpin.
Having just offered up the cb tank, the xbr mounting stalks would require shortening to clear the new tunnel. Also, new mounting  points slightly more forward and up . Balance pipe elbows needed turning inwards to clear frame.
CX tank anyone?

These are the bars you need. Straight out at 90 degrees, they're about 2 inches higher and nearly the same again closer to the rider. I think bars from the VF400F might also fit but not certain.

Thanks Ron. I think I need to calm down & look at what I've got when it arrives as I'm not even sure what the standard layout looks like, so don't know what I should be thinking of doing with the bars.

Matt - I'm still a little confused. Will the tank you're offering go more or less straight on or does it need more "adjustment"? I guess all these tanks are shorter than the original so will need brackets making up which I'm very happy with but my metal bashing skills are a bit on the crude side, and as for my welding it's now non-existent.

Those tanks on ebay look nice but are all much too narrow given the dimensions you kindly provided in your project thread.

The CB tank's mounting cups foul on the XBR mounting stalks, as the XBR tank has a wider tunnel. Shortening these stalks is the only way to get the CB tank to even sit down roughly in place. However, from there, it would be either a case of relocating the existing  CB mounting cups or relocating the XBR stalks.

Ah, wasn't sure what you meant by stalks - these are the things holding the 2 rubber bobbins?

That's  them. Funny how people have different  terminology. Stalks holding the rubber mushrooms, is how I refer to them, but no idea why...

Changing the tank certainly  had a knock-on affect on my xbr and lots got changed. It eventually ended up costing me a w650 as a 2nd bike to get some riding done - talk about win-win! Your mileage/missus might vary...

I'm going to treat mine like a rolling restoration - the objective this year being to get the tank and seat done and as much of the rest as I fancy, then carrying on as and when. But who knows....

Of course I have the Norton so will not be bikeless at any time.

Tommy - I'll be keeping things like tank and seat to replace if it all goes horribly wrong but probably not the fairing if you're interested?   Yes i would be ian  i have a good idea for it ,but im sure the post to ireland would be mad , tommy
