The seller is not responding to texts. Strange as I actually had a phone conversation with him and he seemed like a reasonable person. However I may have a new track to follow.......

That yellow one is pretty but kickstart only - and it's in Norfolk which is a fair trek....

I had thought of an XBR but they're pig-ugly (to my eyes at least) and a bit on the heavy side. There are a couple as you say sub-£2000 at dealers. I'm not in a rush (initial over-enthusiasm subsidiug) so will see what transpires. One thing putting me off the Scottish one is its date which is a year too new to put on my classic bike policy. But that wouldn't stop me buying it if I could ever get to speak to the seller again.

What you need Ian, is an XRB engined CB 250 RS.

Agree the CB400SS is pretty-I didn't know about these either until now.

There's one local to me, which I've seen parked up a few times. I've never managed to see the owner for a chat, but a lovely looking bike.
