Jeremy Vine R2 audio cameras on UK roads

Starts at 12, but segment with new cameras taking pics of vehicles that trigger them at 80dB, probably a bit later.
Lead-in said these are already being trialed in Kensington & Chelsea, resulting in over 150 fines.

almost all of which have been rich kids in their lambos and ferraris thrashing them up and down the leafy boulevards. they were installed exactly because of this nuisance and sadly, the supercar owning glitterati of the tax hiding oligarchs and squillionaires of chelsea and kensington dont really fear a council issued £100 fine. these are people for whom a 120 quid parking fine is acceptable as the price to let them park outside their 10 million quid 2 bed flats.

The trouble with sound is that the perceved noise is variable and frequency is a bigger factor, a single cylinder bike at 100Db will sound a lot more pleasing than a 4 cylinder at the same Db and a 2 stroke would be even worse

Hi all

How are these meters dealing with the ambient noise that is ever-present on our main roads. Surely it would be impossible to prove on a photo that a particular vehicle produced a particular level of sound?

Could you go backwards and forward in front of the camera/meter with a wheeled lawnmower until it got fed up with you ?  most mowers make more than 80db and chain saws about 120, could be good fun.... i think a bin wagon in low gear going up a hill would work as well..think i need a whisky

Nearly all pre 80's bikes would be over the 80Db limit
