oohh bu55er Bill, i see you are suffering 'tailpeice bolt hole syndrome' ... all my srx (twinshocks) have succumbed to that ... i heat up a washer and melt it into the plastic, then cover with a thin layer of fibreglass mat, drill it out when set, and seems to do the trick.
just saying.
I've been following this thread with interest, but as i only have #1 in the stable now i'm unable to help, as many years ago i wired in a boyer/brandsen reg , a really good fix, done many 1000's of miles faultlessly.

Dear SteveT,

Thank you for your compliment and "OH Bu55er!" that the problem has not been solved. I hope that you can find the problem. Electrickery can prove VERY irksome in my experience.

As for the PM nomination, I shall politely decline. Student union politics in the 1970's as an office bearer and village politics as an officer bearer for the village hall and highland games committee in the 1980's taught me a lot about politics, as did my job.

A spade is a spade and many think that it is a wand! ;)

Good health, Bill

There you go you see, if that isn’t the kind of quote a PM would come out with, I don’t know what is. 😁😉👍

A politician (in London) might call it a, "soil displacement facility" ??

And my response would be that London has become the sewer of England, but that is not PC!  ::)

However, this link is very enlightening:Tideway

Steve Thackery, do you sort this ?. There are two types of rectifier/regulator (single and three phase) and they use the same packaging and look identical so it can be confusing.
The majority available are three phase and some suppliers will sell you a three phase item and swear blind its a single phase item.
The three phase regulator/rectifiers can be used on a twinshock SRX but my experience is they dont work as well. With the three phase items the body is the additional 'connector' and needs to be connected to the wiring harness negative, this is the additional black wire mentioned.
One other tip when testing is to have a good battery, I spent ages trying to sort and issue by changing single items, in the end it was both the battery and the regulator rectifier which were duff.

SORTED!

I'm now satisfied that the two reg/recs I received - which said they were for the SRX600 - were not suitable.  At least one of them has blown up inside - short circuits between all terminals.

So, I bought a generic single-phase, four-terminal regulator, described as suitable for 1960s Triumphs.  The key thing is that it has the wires coming out of it, rather than a moulded-in connector, so it's easy to know exactly how to connect it up by looking at the colours.

I connected the two yellows to the two whites coming from the alternator; the red to the red going to the battery +ve, and the black to the black wire going to ground.  I used a four-way shell connector for convenience - see the attached photo.

Pleased that you are sorted SteveT and my apologies for not helping matters! :-[

Hope that you can get out for a canter.

Don't say that, Bill!  You helped enormously.  Prior to your photos I had no way of knowing whether the reg/rec modules were unsuitable, or the wiring was wrong.  You proved that the wiring was correct, so I then knew the replacement modules were not suitable for the SRX.  I couldn't have proven that without your help.   :)
